KOTA TINGGI: Several enforcement agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, are investigating allegations that gaming companies were funding Perikatan Nasional in the last general election.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said called on politicians and members of political parties to stay calm as MACC and several other agencies were carrying out their probes.

"It is not investigated only by MACC…it also involves the police and the Inland Revenue Board. Other law enforcement agencies can look and assess the case too.

"Let's not have a myopic view of things, thinking that MACC is the only one investigating," she said, adding that she had been informed of new development about the case, but MACC was not under her purview.

Earlier, it was reported that Azalina, who is also a Pengerang member of parliament, in a statement, emphasised that the response she provided in the Dewan Rakyat on behalf of MACC did not indicate that any investigation related to these allegations had been terminated or dropped.

She was quoted saying that the MACC investigation found that the allegation was too general and no party could confirm the issue. Thus no investigation file was opened.

She said Malaysian law has no statute of limitations to initiate an investigation.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim implied that part of PN's funds for its election campaign allegedly came from gaming companies, particularly those that took part in "special draws" for 4D numbers.
