DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has made a comparison between the murky water issue in Kelantan and PAS leaders governing Kelantan.

According to Zahid, Kedah and Kelantan’s basic development agenda is in dire need of change.

Citing the clean water supply issue in Kelantan as example, Zahid said there is no solution in sight even after decades, adding that that there has been no development despite PAS been given ample chances to improve their administration.

“Were they (PAS) not given a chance? They ruled Kelantan for 33 years and one of their representatives has even served as a minister in charge of water.

“But the murky water issue is yet to be resolved. PAS leaders’ hearts are as murky as Kelantan’s water,” Zahid said.

The Bagan Datuk MP also urged individuals born in PAS-administered states such as Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu who lived in other states to think about their elderly parents at home when voting in the upcoming state elections.

Last month, Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) who is responsible for handling the management of water supply throughout the state of Kelantan came under fire when a copy of the purported circular regarding the bonus for AKSB staff went viral.

According to the circular, AKSB each directors receives a RM10,000 bonus while the staff received RM200 each.

AKSB immediately made a police report regarding the copy of the purported circular.

Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said that the case was being investigated under Section 505 of Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 8 (1) (d) of the Official Secrets Act.

Instead of confirming the circular’s authenticity, AKSB senior manager Dr Nazmi Ghazali Azmi went on the offensive and declared that disclosing such confidential information was a crime.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob had, however, defended the bonus payout given to AKSB’s board and staff citing that every government-linked company (GLC) has a right to reward its board members.

“Any GLC can give any form of award to its board members. Perhaps that is what AKSB did,” the Pasir Pekan assemblyman was reported as saying on May 25.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said Kelantan’s water woes stemmed from the mismanagement in AKSB.

Nik Nazmi, who is also the Setiawangsa MP, said even his predecessor Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had admitted that the water woes in Kelantan “stems from poor governance and AKSB’s unsustainable financial position”. - June 9, 2023
