Sabah govt told to identify failures in administering GLCs

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah government should list down those who have failed to carry out their responsibilities in administering government-linked corporations (GLCs) in the state.

Datuk Darell Leiking (Warisan-Moyog) said the public needed to know who they were so that they were not given a second opportunity.

"(Those executives) have been given the trust and responsibility to govern GLCs. When GLCs fail, it means that they have failed.

"If there is any abuse of power, they are innocent until proven guilty until they are accused in court, but we need to know who they are because during the next government, they may go and meet the Chief Minister, who they may have put back (in the same position).

"They should be exposed as that money is people's money, GLCs cannot function without that money," he said during a press conference at the state assembly building here.

Earlier, in response to Darell's plea to expose non-performing GLC executives at the state assembly sitting question-and-answer session, state Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun assured that relevant people would be held accountable for their activities.

"We have sacked a few, but we do not want to inform the public because it is embarrassing.

"Our overriding concern is to solve the problem; it is not my intention to embarrass (anyone). But if there is any abuse of power, we will refer to MACC"

Early this month, Masidi had said that only a few of the 100 GLCs were returning dividends to Sabah.
