KEDAH Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has reiterated that he had never aspired to become prime minister or hold any position throughout his political career, and that the idea had never crossed his mind.

According to Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, everything is God’s will, and he had also left it to his party to decide on the matter.

However, he stated that if entrusted by the party leadership, he will do his best to carry out his responsibilities for the benefit of all parties.

“Regarding the leadership question, I have said it many times including at the previous press conference, that we cannot set goals or have wishful thinking. In fact, as the Kedah MB, I don’t even have a goal.

“I have no ambitions, but if the leadership puts me anywhere, I will do my best for the congregation, the party, and the public. Not for myself,” Sanusi told reporters after today’s (Nov 30) Kedah State Assembly session.

Sanusi was responding to the statement made by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin that the party has many candidates for prime minister to pick from, among them PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS vice president Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Terengganu MB, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and several young leaders including Sanusi himself.

Meanwhile, when asked to comment on his statement at the 68th PAS Annual Meeting in September about the possibility of a PAS prime minister by 2050, Sanusi said that with the current situation, the wish could come true earlier.

“We might have a prime minister from PAS before 2050, possibly next year. At the moment, PAS has the highest number of parliamentary seats in Malaysia when compared to other parties, and this is the basis of my confidence,” Sanusi said.

For the record, PAS has the most seats in Dewan Rakyat after the Islamic party managed to win 48 seats in this year’s 15th General Election (GE15), while PN lynchpin party Bersatu won 25 seats.

DAP has the second most seats in Dewan Rakyat with 40 seats, followed by PKR with 31 seats. - Nov 30, 2023
