PAS warlord Sanusi slighted by ‘Little Napoleons’ of Federal gov’t wanting to pit him against Anwar

KEDAH Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has urged political appointees not to interfere in the affairs of the government or at ministerial/agency level.

This is because such action would ultimately lead to enmity and strife between state and national leaders with existing schisms already created by differing political ideologies.

“As MB, I feel insulted by the attitude of the politically appointed officials of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Foreign Ministry who are trying to play politics to embarrass him,” chided Sanusi when delivering the 2024 Kedah state budget closing speech yesterday (Nov 29).

“I will not attack Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim because in my view the recent negotiation in Sadao reflected his attitude as the PM.”

The Kedah PAS deputy state commissioner further explained that the delegation to Sadao last Monday (Nov 27) was to discuss the new road (entrance) to South Thailand due to the existing road in Bukit Kayu Hitam experiencing congestion.

As the head of the state that shares a common border with neighbouring Thailand, Sanusi said he received an invitation last Saturday (Nov 25) to join the federal government delegation to Sadao.

The invitation was arranged between officers of the PMO and his office. The usual diplomatic SOPs (standard operating procedures) in relation between the state and federal governments as well as foreign countries were followed.

“I was present as MB with the invitation having included the full schedule of the delegation from 10am to 3.40 pm. However, when arriving at the airport, changes were made by the Foreign Ministry officials who are understood to be political appointees,” explained Sanusi.

“The schedule earlier prepared by the diplomatic administration officer (PTD) was well-conceived and beautiful but due to an intervention by a politically-appointed official, it became what it shouldn’t be.”

Feeling humiliated

To show his dismay, Sanusi said he was not even provided a seat during the pre-council discussion at the Raia Hotel (in Alor Setar) whereby all the invited agencies were invited to offer inputs during their meeting with the Thai delegation.

“Although all agencies were invited to give their inputs, there was no seat for the MB Kedah. I just stood still until the PM (Anwar) ordered a seat to be given to me. Such is the game of Little Napoleons whose chess moves are indeed calculated to create clashes and fights of dissatisfaction among leaders of the country,” he berated.

Sanusi also felt insulted when it was said that he was served lunch courtesy of the PM (Anwar) when all those involved in the discussion were invited to eat together.

“I don’t wish to bring up this story but since the PM mentioned this in parliament, I better paint the true picture here. As an officer, you have to work hard to ensure that the bosses get along well. Only then is our government cool. Not to arrange for a fight until the end of time.”

According to Sanusi, it became even more annoying when he was used as a punchline to jokes in the Parliament as if he is stupid and does not know anything and just blindly follow others.

“I felt insulted. I am the Kedah MB and the state’s representative and no longer Sanusi per se. The Kedah state has its sovereignty,” he asserted. - Nov 30, 2023
