JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a children's game machine business owner and his employee for allegedly bribing a city council enforcement officer.

According to sources, the 45-year-old and 21-year-old male suspects were arrested at around 1am at the Johor MACC headquarters here on Friday (March 22).

It is learnt that the suspect had given a RM4,000 bribe to an Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) enforcement officer as an incentive not to take action on the suspect's business premises which was found to be conducting business activities without a valid MBIP licence.

The business premises had been given a notice of cessation of business activities for having committed an offense in breach of the valid conditions of the licence under the council’s business, trade and industrial licensing by-law 2018.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest and said the case was investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

He also reminded the public not to try to give or offer bribes to any public servant because it is a punishable offense.
