KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) called for reprimands to public servants to be made in a respectful manner without widespread dissemination on social media

Cuepacs secretary-general, Abdul Rahman Mohd Nordin said this was to prevent situations from arising that do not accurately reflect actual circumstances, reported on-line portal FMT.

Referring to the recent reprimand by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to the Immigration Department, he said that staff at Tambak Johor had been working tirelessly to manage the entry of Malaysian citizens into Singapore and vice versa.

"During the MB's (Onn Hafiz) visit, it was off-peak hours, and a small number of counters were closed due to officers taking breaks and attending to other administrative duties. Officers have been working tirelessly at the entrance (Tambak Johor), one of the busiest in the world. Criticisms will cause morale to decline," he said.

He said this in response to the dispute over the congestion issue at Tambak Johor between Onn Hafiz and the Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia (KPISM). Last Monday, Onn Hafiz expressed his disappointment in a Facebook post when 13 counters at the car lane at Tambak Johor were not open to the public, causing congestion.

He was quoted as saying that the operations at the national border gates in the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex Building were still not at full efficiency.

KPISM president Ajeet Singh Gurbax Singh, in his response, said that the congestion occurred due to the shift change of staff and they were in line for a break after peak hours.

Abdul Rahman added that not all issues need to be publicised on social media as it would invite criticism from netizens. Instead, he said some issues could be resolved internally, especially considering Onn Hafiz's position as the chairman of the Traffic Congestion Task Force at Tambak Johor.
