UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has strongly criticised the Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia for its recent comments regarding Johor Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s surprise inspections at border checkpoints in the state.

Puad accused union president Ajeet Singh Gurbax Singh of displaying a “denial syndrome” and “Little Napoleon” mentality in his remarks.

Ajeet had previously stated that while he appreciated Onn Hafiz’s frequent visits to border checkpoints, the Johor MB should also address other issues affecting the people of Johor, particularly in rural villages that Onn had yet to visit.

The criticism stemmed from Onn Hafiz’s expressed disappointment over the non-opening of 13 counters at the car lane of the Johor Causeway, leading to congestion.

“Asking the Johor MB to divert attention to other matters reflects a narrow-minded approach that is unfit for a civilised nation,” said Puad.

Instead, Puad pointed out the need to focus on resolving congestion at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) border checkpoints, which he argued impacts not only officials but also the public and the economy of Johor and Malaysia.

“It must be addressed so that not only are officials relieved of the burden, but also the public is spared from the congestion at the checkpoints,” he penned on his Facebook page.

Moreover, Puad highlighted the economic ramifications particularly for Singaporean investors, and dismissed the explanation provided by Ajeet regarding the changing of shifts of immigration officers as an excuse for the congestion.

He commended Onn Hafiz’s commitment to resolving the issue, citing the Johor MB’s visits to the BSI and CIQ complex during both early mornings and late nights.
