KUALA LUMPUR: The country's top graft buster says it will not comment on claims made by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he is being accused of wrongdoing.

"As investigations are still ongoing, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission reserves its comments until we complete our investigation," MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told the New Straits Times.

Yesterday, Mahathir said MACC had accused him of wrongdoing as implied in a notice the agency sent to his son Mirzan.

The country's longest-serving prime minister cited a sentence in the notice which read, "an offence under Section 23 of the Act related to report IPJ/RPTNO/0477/2023 has been committed by Mahathir Mohamad".

Mahathir said his MyKad number was also published in the notice.

"As far as I know, I was never investigated but this MACC notice states that I have committed a crime," he said in a statement yesterday.

Mahathir said though he has been accused of owning billions, there has been no proof of this.

He also said MACC should produce evidence of his wrongdoings.

Previously, in a Bloomberg report, Mahathir's sons Tan Sri Mokhzani and Mirzan, claimed their father was the target of a MACC probe.

Mohkzani and Mirzan, who have been asked to declare their assets, said they were ordered to assist in a probe into Mahathir.

They have been asked to declare their assets to the MACC dating back to 1981 when their father became prime minister.
