KUALA KUBU BARU: The government has yet to decide whether it will take action against those who had claimed that a casino would be opened in Forest City, Johor.

Unity Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said several police reports have been lodged over the matter but they have yet to scrutinise the reports.

"There are multiple reports over this case. I have yet to receive detailed information.

"We have a Cabinet meeting tomorrow. Maybe we will (decide) after that," he said at a press conference after a working visit to the KKB National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) today.

Foreign media, quoting unnamed sources, had claimed that Berjaya Corporation Bhd's Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Genting Malaysia Bhd deputy chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay were in early discussions with the government on opening a casino in Forest City, and that they had met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

All parties have since denied the claim.

Anwar had last week dismissed the claim as "a lie."

Berjaya Corporation Bhd yesterday said that it has filed police reports on Apr 26 regarding the articles, citing malicious intent aimed at causing political upheaval.

Genting Malaysia Bhd also refuted the claims.

Meanwhile, on his working visit, Fahmi said officers from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would be opening counters to listen to the complaints of the community.

He said he had also instructed the officers to go on the ground with the KKB Madani Community to get information and feedback from the public especially with regards to internet connection.

Fahmi also advised all parties to campaign in moderation and not to touch on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues in their campaigns.

"I would like to stress that the MCMC will take action in accordance to the law without political influence. MCMC is a statutory body with it's own laws and is under the jurisdiction of the Parliament," he said.
