SINGAPORE (Aug 30): Officials from Singapore and Malaysia met in Johor from Aug 28 to 30 to advance discussions on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

In a statement Friday, Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry said the meeting discussed various issues, including economic sectors, movement of people and goods, ease of doing business, and talent development to strengthen the business ecosystem within the region and improve cross-border flows of goods and people.

It said both sides will also work towards the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat later this year.

“Both Singapore and Malaysia view the JS-SEZ as a win-win initiative that benefits businesses and communities from both countries.

“Singapore will continue to work closely with Malaysia to bring about mutual benefits to our countries and peoples through a full-fledged agreement on the JS-SEZ,” it said.

On Thursday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that both sides are fine-tuning details for the final agreement on the special economic zone, with signing hopefully in November.
