Ahmad Tarmizi started his career as an article clerk with Coopers and Lybrand, before taking a brief exposure on the management role in marketing. He continued his passion in internal auditing at Maybank Finance Berhad and further progressed his career with Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (Bursa Securities). 

He was with the Bursa Securities for 27 years holding various positions in internal audit department and inspection department before retiring on 3 November 2021.

Upon his retirement, he embarked upon his entrepreneurial journey by setting up his own company specialising in providing intermediary and advisory support in various renewable energy initiatives in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Through his active involvement in advocating the use of renewable energy initiatives in Malaysia and Indonesia, he has quite recently been admitted as a pro-tem member of the Malaysia-Japan Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Association on 15 June 2023.
