He completed his secondary education at the Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur and completed 3 years of medical studies at the University of Malaya, then situated in Singapore in 1958. He proceeded to read Law at the Inner Temple, England in 1962 and was called to the English Bar and the Malaysian Bar in 1966 and 1967 respectively.
