He started his career in 1980 as a part-time reported for the China Press. In 1982, he was employed as a Regional Executive Secretary by the Malaysian Chinese Association. He left this position in 1985 to establish the House of Business Equipment Sdn Bhd, a company involved in the marketing of office equipment. He has also been extensively involved in property development, and investments in various industries. He also held the position of Municipal Councillor for the Majlis Perbandaran Shah Alam from 1986 until 1990.
