Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Civil Engineering from Glasgow University, United Kingdom; Master of Science (Construction Management) from Loughborough University, United Kingdom and Professional Engineer of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

He started his career as a Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department (“JKR”) in 1975. Since then he has served JKR for 23 years until 1998. In 1998, he joined Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad, a public listed company, as Group Managing Director until 2002. With his vast experience in both the public and private sectors, he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Construction Industry Development Board (“CIDB”), Malaysia in 2003 and then appointed as the Chairman of CIDB in 2011 to February 2014 and the Chairman of Malaysian Highway Authority from 17 February 2014 to 31 December 2014. He is presently an Independent Non-Executive Director of IJM Corporation Berhad.
