Tan Sri Adam holds a Master of Laws degree in Commercial and Corporate Laws from the University of London. He had earlier obtained a Master of Science from Ohio University, U.S.A., in 1973 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Malaya in 1967. He completed a programme in Advanced Management in Harvard University Business School, U.S.A., in 1981.
Working Experience
He was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1986 and made a Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Land and Regional Development in 1987. He subsequently became a Senator and President of the Senate in 1990. Between 1994 and 1996, he was President of both the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Malaysia Chapter. In 1997, he returned to Wineka Group after the expiry of his term in the Senate. Tan Sri Adam began his career as a Producer in the then Ministry of Broadcasting & Information in 1967, after his graduation. He joined the Selangor Economic Development Corporation (PKNS) as Assistant Secretary in 1970. He left to join Aseambankers in 1973 as Manager, Project Development. He moved on to PERNAS Group of Companies as General Manager and Director from 1975 to 1981. From 1982-1986, he became an Entrepreneur with his own business enterprise called Wineka Group. Tan Sri Adam was the Chairman of Jengka Sdn Bhd, a Pahang comprehensive timber complex, from 1983 to 1987. He sat on the Board of various companies whilst an entrepreneur including PBS Multinational Merchant Bank, Malaysia General Investments Corporation Berhad, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and Lembaga Perusahaan Pertanian Pahang.
