Datuk Matthew holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy and Marketing) from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is a Chartered Accountant, admitted by Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) in 2002. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (Financial Planning Association of Malaysia) and was duly awarded the status, Fellow Certified Practising Accountant / FCPA, by CPA Australia in March 2016.

He is currently the Group Executive Director of Bina Puri Holdings Berhad, a public listed company on Malaysia's stock exchange, with core business in construction, property development, utilities and highway concession. He is also an
Executive Director of KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway Berhad, the concessionaire for 33 km highway, KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway or LATAR Expressway. He joined Bina Puri Holdings Berhad in December 2003 as Special Assistant to the Group Managing Director. He was appointed as Executive Director on 1 December 2009 and was re-designated
as Group Executive Director on 7 March 2013. Previously, he was the Administrator of the Chinese Maternity Hospital from 2001 to 2003 and was attached to PricewaterhouseCoopers in the audit department from 1999 to 2001. He was also a Business Services Accountant in Marsden B. Robinson, Chartered Accountants (New Zealand) from 1998 to 1999.
