Working Experience
Tan Sri Muhammad bin Ibrahim joined Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM"), Malaysia's Central Bank in 1984. Before his appointment in 2004 as Assistant Governor, Tan Sri Muhammad served across a multitude of areas in the bank, including banking regulation and supervision, head of strategic planning, insurance regulation and also investment operations, reserve management and financial markets. He was appointed as the Deputy Governor of BNM in 2010 and served for 2-term before being appointed as the 8th Governor of BNM from May 2016 to June 2018. During this period, he was a member of the Banks Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Committee. Throughout his service to the Central Bank of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhammad has contributed significantly to international and regional community on the issues of central banking, economics and finance. He also has served as: - Chairman of the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics - Chairman of the Global Standards and Policy Committee of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion - Co-chair of the Financial Stability Board Regional Consultative Group for Asia - Managing Director of Danaharta Nasional Berhad, a bank recapitalisation agency that helps restore the affected companies in the Asian economic crisis of 1997/98 - member of the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee - board member of the Retirement Fund Incorporated - Chairman of the Asian Institute of Finance, the Financed Accreditation Agency, Labuan Financial Services Authority and the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance - member of the National Trust Fund - trustee of the Tun Ismail Ali Chair Council - member of the governing board of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation Tan Sri Muhammad was a former commissioner of the Securities Commission Malaysia and independent director of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).
