Food is first bcos it is a necessity so it won't make much difference whether there is gst or not except the choice of cheaper brand as alternatives.
The upper middle class may buy jewelelries or expensive watches in neighbouring countries where there is no gst but have to pay for higher exchange rate.Relatively compares to goods sold in our supermarkets to those in neighbouring countries our good are still cheap so I won't think there is much difference in sales over a period of time.
Humans will still give in to their desires or craving of enjoyment of material possessions so they may give less to their parents or work harder for more income.
So be more innovative or aggressive in your businesses if you are businessmen,after sometimes people will get use to it and won't harp on it.

Kitkat88,I agreed with you.When I bought priva at 20c,the next few minutes down to 18c,my heart dropped like the shares.So when it was 21c I sold off and within next few days it went up to near 30c.But no regret bcos not worth the stress.

A good stock which was infested with snakes but it has almost left here bcos they didn't succeed on the on slaught.
