KUALA LUMPUR: Bintulu Integrated Energy Hub (BIEH) in Sarawak remains agile and resolute in responding to an uncertain and challenging economic environment, in its pursuit of long-term growth strategies towards a sustainable future.

BIEH owner Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said the hub was taking steps to manage the uncertain outlook to strengthen its resilience and ensure long-term sustainability.

"Although we are facing Covid-19 challenges, our operations remain intact and running with 100 per cent capacity with strict adherence to Covid-19 standard operating procedures as instructed by the authorities," said Abdul Karim, who is also Serba Dibamik chief executive officer.

BIEH is a 30-acre development in Tanjung Kidurong which will house the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and inspection, repair and maintenance centre of excellence.

It is targeted to become a central facility that will provide a multitude of MRO and multi-disciplinary engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services.

The hub is also equipped with cutting edge technology such as high-speed balancing machine, computer numerical control horizontal and vertical milling centre, electrical discharge wire cutting machine, high precision coordinate measuring machine as well as other cutting-edge technologies which will be the first in Asia.

Companies like Asean Bintulu Fertiliser, Petronas' Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis, PTTEP (formerly known as Murphy Oil) and Petronas-owned Bintulu Integrated Facility are operating in Bintulu.

Hence, setting up BIEH with a full range of maintenance and repair services to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry as well as power generation there made business sense, Abdul Karim said.

BIEH currently host MRO workshops, blasting, coating and galvanisation areas and plants, fabrication and laydown areas, warehouses and storage facilities.

Other facilities include office buildings, car parks, power substation, a wastewater treatment facility and training centres.

"There is currently a total of 1,239 workforce in BIEH, who are working on rotational basis," he said.

In the first half of this year, he said, BEIH had received more than RM640 million worth of contracts from various clients namely Shell, Petronas, Samalaju Port, ABP, Nippon Oil and other big names in various fields.

Abdul Karim said that the hub's orderbook of RM640 million can last it until 2023.

On the job prospects, he said: "We are expecting additional RM1 billion to be secured from reputable international companies which will support Malaysia's GDP growth for 2022.

Serba Dinamik has also played its role in corporate social responsibility, benefitting the front liners in Bintulu.

On June 30 this year, Serba Dinamik Sdn Bhd donated five washer machines, three water dispensers and food supplies to Bintulu Hospital.

The donation is primarily intended to provide necessity at five quarantine and low-risk treatment centres in Bintulu as well as to the Covid-19 patients.
