Cramer: Yellen & oil—The world’s most dangerous game

Jim Cramer thinks the stock market is playing a dangerous game.

Every day the market plays rock, paper, scissors. It goes on endlessly until the close, and then starts right back up at the end of the day.

The scissors are the Federal Reserve, and the rock is oil. Oil can smash anything that the Fed throws at it. That means Janet Yellen tell Congress as much as she wants about the need to raise interest rates, but oil is the powerful force that can crush her impact on the market.

"Oil is that powerful a force, and it has the added advantage of being dumb as a rock because when oil goes higher it is good for the overall market, but particularly for those companies that do poorly in the real world when oil goes higher," the "Mad Money" host said.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/02/10/oil-prices-fall-as-us-inventories-hit-record-high-economic-woes-continue.html

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) last traded at $27.20 a barrel. Earlier in the day, it settled down $1.24, or 4.5 percent, at $26.21 a barrel, after breaking a psychologically key level of $26.19, the lowest since May 8, 2003, when it hit $26.

Petronas Gas: Bulk of capex for growth projects
Posted on 6 May 2014 - 05:40am

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Gas Bhd said it would have spent about RM2.1 billion by the end of this year, a quarter of the RM8.1 billion capital expenditure (capex) set aside since last year for its various projects, its top executive said.

Managing director and CEO Yusa Hassan said the company has RM6 billion of capex more spread over the the next five years. He said 60% of the funds will be reserved for growth projects, such as the regasification terminal (RGT) in Pengerang, Johor, and the remaining will be for ongoing projects to support its plant operations.

"This year, (we've allocated) RM800 million for ongoing projects, plant rejuvenation and revamp, as well as some other maintenance capex," Yusa told pressmen after the company's AGM here yesterday.

He said 2013 will see the Kimanis Power Plant complex in Sabah commencing commercial operations and the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal (RGT) in Sungai Udang, Malacca going into its full year of operations. Yusa added that its 60%-owned Kimanis Power Plant when fully commissioned this year will contribute 3% to 4% to its bottomline in 2015.

Developed by its joint venture company, Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd, the power plant is currently undergoing extensive commissioning for its first generation block of 100MW and is expected to achieve commercial operations by the second quarter of 2014. The commissioning activities for the remaining two generation blocks would be completed by the third quarter of 2014.

Yusa also expects the Malacca RGT to contribute between 8% to 10% to its net profit this year with the RGT fully operational and its capacity fully underwritten by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).

In 2013, the RGT contributed 5% to its bottomline when it commenced operations in the second quarter last year.

Petronas Gas has also been appointed by Petronas to build and operate another RGT facility in Pengerang to serve the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project.

On another RGT in Lahad Datu, Yusa said it is waiting for the government's decision to build a power plant there.

The group also expects income from its five year new gas processing agreement and gas transportation agreements with Petronas effective from April 1, 2014 to remain stable.

In FY13, Petronas Gas net profit rose 48% to RM2.08 billion, while revenue was up 8.8% to RM3.89 billion, boosted by new revenue stream from the establishment of the Sungai Udang RGT and higher capacity reservation for the gas transportation segment.

It paid out its highest dividend of 55 sen per share, comprising 15 sen interim dividend and 40 sen final dividend. This represents a dividend payout ratio of 75%, but it is not the highest. The company noted that it has paid out more than 75% before. Shares of Petronas Gas closed 0.76% lower at RM23.52 yesterday.

Monetising data crucial for telcos’ growth
Posted on 6 February 2014 - 05:38am
Rupinder Singh

PETALING JAYA (Feb 6, 2014): The growing popularity of video consumption in mobile data usage is seen as a long-term opportunity for telecommunication companies (telcos) to increase the monetisation of data as voice revenue growth stagnates.

"Hence, monetising data is crucial and the likelihood of success should be high with the local market already relatively comfortable with tiered data pricing. This implies less risk of network congestion in the longer term while capex will likely be kept in check," RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd analyst Lim Tee Yang said.

He noted that among the telcos, DiGi.com Bhd has been doing a better job in monetising data on the back of strong revenue growth and resilient margins.

Lim said that while Celcom Axiata Bhd has also done fairly well in growing data revenue, it is not a direct pure local play via its parent Axiata Group Bhd. He pointed out that Celcom contributes 44% of Axiata's revenue.

"We believe DiGi's continued emphasis on growing mobile internet revenue on the prepaid segment is the right strategy. DiGi has sufficient capacity and better service quality now that its network has been fully modernised, and is working to progressively expand its LTE population coverage," Lim said.

He said Maxis Bhd's strategy of seeding the postpaid market with smartphones via handset subsidies, coupled with a less than efficient organisational structure prior to a major revamp last year, has not really generated the desired results as revenue growth in recent years have been lacklustre.

"Although Maxis now has a leaner organisational structure and new chief executive officer Morten Lundal in place, we expect 2014 to be a year of transition for Maxis, which implies revenue growth to remain at low single digit," he said.

Lim maintained his "underweight" recommendation on the telco sector, as he believed the telcos are still facing headwinds in monetising data effectively alongside the cannibalisation of short message service (SMS) revenue.

"We expect industry revenue growth to moderate slightly to 4.6% in 2014 from 5.6% in 2013. With no further expectations of tax incentives after they expired in third quarter of 2013, we believe the prospect of positive earnings surprises in 2014 will be minimal," he said.

Nonetheless, he said, the telcos will be mindful of operational challenges and are expected to resume their cost management initiatives to keep their margins stable.

Lim kept "sell" calls on DiGi with a fair value of RM4.10 and Maxis (RM5.90), while was "neutral" on Telekom Malaysia Bhd (RM5.50), TIME dotCom Bhd (RM3.95) and Axiata (RM6.55).

He said he still liked Axiata for a potential turnaround in XL Axiata, the second-largest telecommunication provider in Indonesia, which should lead to a rebound in its FY14 earnings growth.

we have good news about zelan.....

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1, 2013): Builder Zelan Bhd has received shareholders' support for its restructuring exercise to pare its borrowings of RM416.22 million as at June 30, 2013, said its managing director Datuk Mohd Nor Idrus.

"I think it's a good start. By having this (restructuring exercise), it will reduce our loan and gearing and improve our relationship with the banks. People will put us more on their radars," he told reporters after the group's AGM and EGM yesterday.

The group has been recording losses from the financial years ended March 31, 2009 to 2011, with accumulated losses of RM392.55 million as of FY13.

Mohd Nor said it is unlikely the group will return to the black this financial year ending March 31, 2014 (FY14) as it would need more time to turn around.

"This (restructuring) exercise is good to clean up the group, to start on a firm footing again, and move forward. There are projects that we have in hand, hopefully this will be a catalyst for us to move forward," said Mohd Nor.

The group's orderbook, including concessions, currently stands at about RM4 billion and it is bidding for projects in several areas including power stations and incinerators.

"We're looking into local projects, but we also won't forget overseas projects," he added.

On the potential buyer of its 4.05% stake in IJM Corp Bhd, Mohd Nor said it will "leave it to the bank".

Affin Investment Bank Bhd is Zelan's financial adviser for the sale of its remaining stake in IJM.

The group recorded a net loss of RM77.87 million in FY13 compared with a net profit of RM11.8 million net profit on a lower revenue of RM128.01 million from RM187.07 million.

Shareholders' funds declined 70% to RM142.48 million as of FY13 from RM475.18 million in FY09, while gearing rose to 2.74 times in FY13 from 0.29 times in FY09.
