Felda settlers group wants Isa to resign

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of second-generation Felda settlers has urged Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad to resign as Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman.

The group, calling itself Suara Generasi ke-2 Felda (SGK2F), today said Isa should step down as he had a "bad track record" as Felda chairman.

Its advisor Datuk Zulkefli Nordin, also claimed that Isa had failed to go down to the ground to address problems faced by the settlers.

He also claimed settlers could not keep track of their debts during Isa's tenure as they were not given proper debt statements.

"Whenever I texted Isa, the only reply I got was 'OK' and nothing happened," Zulkefli told reporters today.

The group, he said, was made up of some 50,000 children of Felda settlers.

He said it was time for Isa to step down, and that his predecessor, Tan Sri Shahrir Samad, was more efficient.

SGK2F chairman Zainuddin Mat Naan said Felda, under Isa's leadership, had done little to improve to lives of the 112,000 settlers in the country.

The group also called on Shahrir to be reappointed as FGV chairman.

"We also want Datuk Zakaria Arshad to retain his post as Felda president and chief executive officer."

It was reported that Zakaria and three other officers were instructed to go on forced leave effective immediately by the company's board of directors, pending an investigation on the delayed payment by Afghan company Safitex to a FGV subsidiary.
