Most emerging Asian currencies slid on Monday and were set to post steep monthly losses as top US. Federal Reserve officials left the door open for an interest rate hike. in September and Chinese stocks tumbled again.
South Korea's won fell as foreign investors continued to sell local stocks.
Foreign investors sold the Indonesian rupiah, while the Singapore dollar skidded with hedge funds selling.
Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer, speaking at the central bank' conference in Wyoming, said recent volatility in global markets quickly could ease and possibly pave the way for a rate hike.
Chinese stocks tumbled ahead of official factory activity data on Tuesday which is likely to deepen fears of a sharp slowdown in the world's second-largest economy.
Activity in China's manufacturing sector in August likely shrank at its fastest pace in three years, a Reuters poll showed.
"Jitters over emerging Asian currencies may persist unless we see a recovery in Chinese data, given doubts over China's ability to support the economy," said Jeong My-young, Samsung Futures' research head in Seoul.
Investors are also awaiting key U.S. economic data later this week including August nonfarm payrolls for clues on the timing of U.S. tightening.
Emerging Asian currencies, however, are unlikely to find much support, some analysts said. "A strong payrolls report might be required for the Fed to pull the trigger in September but even if tightening is delayed a few months it will not be positive for EM FX," analysts for Societe Generale said in a note.
"As long as we in the waiting game and uncertainty is prolonged, EM FX will be unable to rally on a sustained basis."

Asian shares fell on Monday and looked set for their worst monthly performance in three years after top Federal Reserve officials kept the door open for an interest rate hike in September and Chinese stock markets took a fresh tumble.
Global markets are bracing for Chinese data on Tuesday which is expected to show the world's second-largest economy is continuing to lose momentum.

The Federal Reserve on Friday left the door open to a September interest rate hike even while several U.S. central bank officials acknowledged that turmoil in financial markets, if prolonged, could delay the first policy tightening in nearly a decade.
Some top policymakers, including Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer, said recent volatility in global markets could quickly ease and possibly pave the way for the U.S. rate hike, for which investors, governments and central banks around the world are bracing.

Airasia's shares have been under pressure for some time. Starting with a report by GMT Research that raised questions about related party transactions, the company’s second quarter financial results did not help.
A 33.8% fall in net profit to RM243mil from RM367mil for the same period a year ago was a result of lower ticket prices, higher cost and a weakening ringgit against the US dollar.
Competition in the sector will remain intense and even though Malaysia Airlines has cut capacity by nearly 20%, its return via Malaysia Airlines Bhd next month would give its rivals stiffer competition. Even Malindo Air is flying more routes to keep its share of the market.
Such competition amid a more mature market with slower growth rates will put pressure on earnings of airlines operating in the region.
An anticipated prolonged fare dumping beyond the second half of 2015 would continue to suppress yields, so will a spike in jet fuel prices. Further weakening of the ringgit against the greenback will affect airlines.

AirAsia X Bhd says its auditors have discovered 24 payments totalling RM7.01 million made to a service provider, which are now established to be fictitious. The long-haul discount arm of AirAsia Bhd said the payments were authorised by a person in a management position within the company, but did not name him or her. It said the board of directors could not make any announcement earlier as it did not have sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations and to assess with certainty the financial and operational impact on the company.
Following this discovery of irregularities, AirAsia X has lodged a police report, adding that it has sought legal advice on recovering the losses. "(We have also) reviewed the current internal control process to ensure that similar transactions will not recur," it said
in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today. AirAsia X said the irregular dealings between the company and a certain service provider was first discovered in the course of its statutory audit for the financial year-ended December 31, 2014 (FY14). "(Our) internal and external auditors had discovered that certain payments have been made to a service provider between 2010 and 2014 for services which are now established to be fictitious," it said. Following the discovery of the irregularities, AirAsia X appointed PwC Consulting Services Sdn Bhd (PwCCS) to carry out a forensics audit and instructed the management to ensure the availability of all relevant documents and/or key personnel for PwCCS review and interview. "The findings of the forensics audit established that the irregularities have been confined to a sum of RM7.01 million," said AirAsia X.

AirAsia Bhd’s share price fell to a fresh low of 78 sen yesterday, down nine sen on active trade and concerns regarding its Indonesian affiliate.
Year-to-date, the airline’s share price has dropped more than 70%.
For the second quarter ended June 30, 2015, the airline’s Indonesian affiliate, Indonesia AirAsia, recorded a revenue of 1,266.83 billion rupiah, down 16% year-on-year, which was in line with the 12% decrease in capacity and 18% drop in the number of passengers carried.
AirAsia, which has borrowings in US dollars for its fleet of aircraft, registered a profit attributable to shareholders of RM243mil in the second quarter, down 33.8% from a year ago.
This was achieved on a marginally higher revenue of 1% to RM1.32bil, backed by a 7% passenger growth to 5.95 million with 80% load factor.
