FBMKLCI to Advance Further This Week

The blue-chip benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) bounced back from a one-month low as bargain hunters bought sharp dips in key rubber glove counters after regulated short-selling pressure evaporated in the first trading week of this year. Banking stocks suffered losses following Fitch Ratings’ negative outlook on the banking sector and also as squabbles within the Perikatan Nasional coalition threatened early elections. The spike in daily local COVID-19 cases to record highs, while helping the glove and healthcare sectors stage strong rebound, sparked fears of fresh lockdowns, which will reverse economic recovery momentum, hence recovery plays took another dive into the weekend.

For the week, the FBM KLCI inched higher by 5.98 points, or 0.37 percent to 1,633.19, as gains from Supermax (+RM1.29), Top Glove (+38sen), Hartalega (+36sen) and PPB Group (+76sen) more than offset losses on Axiata (-27sen), Public Bank (-26sen) and Genting Berhad (-34sen). Average daily traded volume and value last week stayed robust at 7.58 billion shares worth RM5.29 billion, compared to the 7.8 billion shares and RM3.7 billion average the previous week, as trading momentum in small caps, ACE Market and penny stocks sustained strong retail participation.

Fact is this, recovery stocks are overvalued and some at pre-covid levels and making marginal or zilch profits to report.

Glove stocks with crazy high PAT are oversold, no thanks to IBs hard work on 4th Jan.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise which counters are safer bets during these tumultuous times with covid and political uncertainties brewing.

Some profit taking is expecting but am quite confident it will trend upwards, similar to glove companies across the world ie Intco Medical

@Pharker well said and precisely that. I think the strategy to shake off retailers did work because in terms of ownership, retailers shareholding has dropped drastically from ~72% to current 38% now. Source: Simply WallSt.
Supermax is in a far better position now and hopefully with less volatility in the months ahead.

Definitely and market sentiments off course. However the recovery of glove counters across the world cannot be ignored and the Big 4 should be experiencing a trend reversal soon.

The reason why I'm saying this is because Intco reached an ATH yesterday, one year since the start of the pandemic and today Mercator is seeing a very strong recovery too.

I've been overwhelmed with all the negative press surrounding glove stocks in the recent weeks but confidence has been restored seeing Intco Medical share price reached an ATH today.

A remarkable jump despite the numerous vaccines that's been rolled out.

A recovery for glove stocks is imminent. I'm guessing after Feb when all the CWs with ridiculous exercise prices tapers off.

Green for a change. Let's see if momentum continues for rest of the week.

@Morpheus true that bro. Not denying that. Just trying to knock some sense into those who thinks the vaccine miracle is going to clear all covid cases right away. That is just a bigger fib than saying gloves are sunsetting and ASPs are dropping.

Let's see how the vaccine fueled optimism on recovery stocks pans out for 2021 esp for some companies that are making huge losses and needing capital injection to stay afloat. It will all be disclosed during their next quarterly earnings/ losses update.

The company I'm working for is a recovery stock that's seen its share skyrocketing since the Pfizer vaccine news broke but things are not great at all. Sad situation as more jobs will be axed in the near future.

Anyway, it is what it is. Just hope for the best that everyone's investments remains intact. Its just Day 1 of a whole new year. Lol
