ASE Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd (ASEM) has chosen IJM Construction to deliver their building expansion project, riding on the rapid growth witnessed by the semiconductor industry.

IJM Construction’s ongoing construction projects in Penang are the Mezzo residential tower — a 34-storey hotel and office tower, the Waterfront Shoppes retail mall and the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre at The Light City, Gelugor, as well as a factory expansion for the leading electronics manufacturing firm ViTrox Corporation Bhd’s facility in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park.

Maritime Signature commercial tower, comprising of office suites, shoplots, duplex units and a car parking podium, is set to commence in December this year and will be completed within 42 months.

The two buildings will be constructed over two phases, consisting of a six-storey production floor space, office space, multi-storey car parks, a link bridge, as well as a centralised utility building base.

Located in Penang’s Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, the construction of ASEM’s new semiconductor assembly and testing facility will comprise two buildings namely, plants 4 and 5 with a built-up area of 982,000 square feet.

ASEM is the Malaysian subsidiary of Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc, a global provider of semiconductor manufacturing services in assembly and test.

The first contract is for the construction of a new chip assembly and testing facility with a value of RM341.39 million, awarded by ASE Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd (ASEM), while the second contract is for the construction of a 45-storey Maritime Signature commercial tower located at Karpal Singh Drive in Georgetown, valued at RM80.79 million, and awarded by Bionic Develoment Sdn Bhd

These job wins in Penang came on the heels of IJM securing two major contracts in Selangor last month — a RM831 million construction contract for a government hospital in Kapar and a RM150.8 million contract for the construction of an Inland Revenue Board (IRB) office tower in Shah Alam

IJM Corp Bhd has secured two contracts for the construction of a manufacturing facility and a commercial tower in Penang worth RM422.18 million, sending its construction orderbook to RM4.8 billion.

LRT project, which is connected with the railway shuttle link currently being built from Singapore to Johor Bahru (RTS Link), in March. The project, which is to be an integrated property development using the “transit-oriented development”, is subject to an ongoing feasibility study being completed and the grant of the concession award by the Johor government.

On Wednesday (Dec 14), the group announced that it has proposed to enter into talks with China's CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd to build the LRT system.

T7 Kemuncak Sdn Bhd and Siemens Logistics will execute the project, awarded by Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd, in three sections while the airport is in operation.

The new BHS will feature Siemens Logistics' VarioBelt belt conveyor, which will give the airport a higher storage capacity of 2,500 bag positions

Minetech Resources Bhd has inked an original equipment manufacturing agreement with Cretpaver Asia Sdn Bhd (CASB) to manufacture and trade bituminous products, with an estimated contract value of RM10 million per annum. The agreement was entered through Minetech Asphalt Man International Sdn Bhd (Mami), an 85%-owned subsidiary of Minetech. Mami is engaged in the manufacturing and trading of bituminous products. Meanwhile, CASB is involved in supplying materials for road construction, road line marking and road safety furniture.

Construction outfit Pesona Metro Holdings Bhd has received a takeover offer from major shareholder Wie Hock Kiong to acquire 278.03 million shares or a 40.01% stake in the group at a price of 19 sen per share or RM52.83 million cash in the event of full acceptance of the offer. The mandatory takeover offer comes after the 62-year-old acquired an 80% stake in Kombinasi Emas Sdn Bhd from his younger brother Wie Hock Beng, who is also the managing director of Pesona Metro, for RM18.09 million. Kombinasi Emas, which will be wholly-owned by Hock Kiong, controlled a 41.54% stake in Pesona Metro as at Nov 17.
