Asian markets have been buffeted by the on-off expectations of Fed tapering over the past six months, and are down 7 percent on the year, underperforming developed markets. The Fed's stimulus has generally pumped world markets with cheap cash, particularly driving emerging markets.

Currency trading, India and Indonesia are two of the "fragile five" economies seen most vulnerable to higher U.S. Treasury yields. "Investor concern about macro-fundamental deterioration ... and pressure on emerging market external accounts in the midst of U.S. removal of policy accommodation continue to provide headwinds," said Morgan Stanley analysts in a client note.

Indonesia’s economy grew at its weakest pace in nearly four years in the third quarter, throttled by weak exports and slowing consumption as higher fuel prices bite. Jetstar added Hangzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, to its expanding network of destinations in China yesterday.

The low-cost carrier becomes the first airline to offer direct flights between Singapore’s Changi airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, extending the carrier’s network of seven destinations in Greater China, including four to mainland China – Hangzhou, Guilin, Haikou and Shantou. The four times weekly service will be operated by Jetstar Asia’s Airbus A320 aircraft.
