In one view, value shares are in vogue on business-cycle optimism. In another, they are simply beneficiaries of rising rates -- prompting investors to focus more on short-term cash flows rather than the distant profits of tech darlings. By this logic, the value style still hasn’t fully priced in the recent jump in Treasury rates, per Barclays Plc.

“As the direction of travel is towards more hawkish (or less dvish) policy, we believe a grind higher in rates would be a pain trade,” a team led by Emmanuel Cau wrote in a note last week. “It would pressure some of the well owned longer duration parts of the equity market, and help rebalancing back to reflation or value plays.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The owner of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, the New York private equity firm Blackstone, is selling the 3,000-room Las Vegas Strip hotel in a $5.65 billion deal with a partnership that plans to contract with casino giant MGM Resorts International to operate the property.

The new owners — the Cherng Family Trust, headed by Panda Express billionaires Andrew and Peggy Cherng; real estate investment firm Stonepeak Partners; and a Blackstone real estate fund, Real Estate Income Trust Inc. — will pay more than $4 billion to acquire the property, Blackstone said Monday. MGM Resorts will pay $1.6 billion to take over the hotel’s operations.

The property, along with all other casinos in Nevada, was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic from mid-March to early June 2020. But Blackstone said the Cosmopolitan’s performance in the second quarter of 2021 exceeded pre-COVID levels.

MGM Resorts, a major presence on the Strip, will run the hotel complex. It already owns 13 Las Vegas Boulevard properties, including the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Delano Las Vegas and New York-New York, as well as the T-Mobile Arena and the Park retail promenade.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 24): Malaysia reported 116 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Sept 23), down from 487 logged the day before.

This brought the nation’s total coronavirus-linked fatalities to 24,681, according to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) COVIDNOW website, citing data from the Covid-19 immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Of the new deaths reported yesterday, 29 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, raising the country’s cumulative BID tally to 4,838.
