SUMATEC Resources Bhd is buying a 100 per cent stake in Borneo Energy Oil and Gas Ltd for US$250 million (RM795 million) in cash and shares.

Sumatec said the acquisition marks its first step to be a large independent upstream oil and gas firm.

The company yesterday signed a framework agreement with Abu Talib Abdul Rahman and Dr Murat Safin to buy Borneo Energy, which owns 100 per cent of Buzachi Neft LLP.

Buzachi, incorporated in Kazakhstan, is an independent upstream oil and gas player and its activities range from exploration, production and trading of oil and natural gas.

Buzachi has two 25-year subsoil use contracts, valid until November 2026, to explore and produce oil and gas in the Karaturun Vostochnyi and Karaturun Morskoi fields, also known as the Buzachi Fields.

The fields are in shallow water of one to two metres and about 277km to the northeast from the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.

Sumatec said with the field already in production, it was expected to contribute immediately to the company’s revenue, while the additional oil reserves would provide stable recurring income to its business.

Sumatec chief executive officer Chris Dalton said the Buzachi Fields have reserves of 68 million barrels of oil.

About US$80 million was invested over the years by Buzachi to develop them.

The fields started production in 2007 and are producing between 400 and 600 barrels of oil per day.

read interesting article in starbiz @7th july 2014. another SPAC company, REACH which will be the biggest SPAC co. will be listed sometime in aug at rm 0.75 per share. MARA together with LTH and koperasi permodalan felda will be amongst the instituition to be goven a subtantial stake in REACH. anabody know if this have anything connected to MARA investment in PDZ...
