Despite his prior misgivings, Buffett bought a truckload of shares in airline operators ahead of 2017, and in the first quarter, he added to his Southwest Airlines and American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) positions.

In fact Buffett is heavily invested in airline stocks now.

For an airline stock, growth in revenue is seen to be more important. Profit can be affected by many factors. In this case, AAX is growing and that requires more money, thus increasing the cost. Noted they have increased many routes in Q12017 and that takes time to mature while costs continue to run. Increase in revenue means more and more people is taking AAX and in time profit will sustain. As for now, what a pity that the masses do not understand the operation of an airline stock in Malaysia. Expectations are too high. Look at airlines in USA, profit dropped QoQ and YoY, yet breaking all time highs.

Even US airlines had lower than expected profit in Q1 2017, with the same reasons as what AAX is having. Yet their share prices recovered and testing all time highs. Don't let your emotions dictate your judgement. Expectations are not high amongst analysts. AAX did pretty well in weathering the storm and remained in black. SIA, Cathay are all in the red. Won't deny tomorrow we'll see AAX price hammered. But logically speaking the management team had a pretty good plan for the future of the company.

Some analysts had said that AirAsia X's headline earnings for the first quarter may underperform largely due to a 122 million ringgit forex gain recorded year ago.

AAX management knows what they are doing. Merger not out of the picture yet but the management will continue to evaluate the situation moving forward. definitely they know that their SharePoint is undervalue.

Malaysian market is too saturated. AAX is opening up routes to the western countries to ferry chinese tourists from China, which AAX is also actively opening up new routes, uses Malaysia as a transit point to USA/Europe/Australia

With more foreign funds coming in to KLSE, AAX and AirAsia present a good opportunity for them to buy airline stock at an affordable price.

Overall market sentiment on airline stock is high. Look at all airline stocks in USA trading at close to 52 weeks high.
