Ukraine says Russia has violated ceasefire agreement; evacuation of civilians suspended in Mariupol

Ukraine?s deputy prime minister says that Russia has violated a ceasefire agreement and attacks are ongoing in the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Earlier Saturday, Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the two cities to enable civilians to leave safely.

Mariupol City Council said that it had postponed its evacuation of residents as a result of continued shelling.

... The military experts acknowledged, however, that ?Russia?s naval superiority in the Black Sea has contributed to success in its southern area of operations, with Russian forces breaking out from the Crimean Peninsula and taking territory in southern Ukraine,? the seizing of the port city of Kherson being its most major victory so far during the invasion.

They noted that ?although Ukraine has fought well and disrupted plans for a quick and decisive Russian victory, the situation is still perilous. Russia is moving to encircle Kyiv and Kharkiv and appears to have switched to indiscriminate long-range fires ? resulting in significant collateral damage in residential areas? and is making significant progress in the south.?

One week into Russia?s invasion of Ukraine and military analysts are united on one front, at least: Russia?s invasion has not gone entirely to plan, looking disorganized, uncoordinated and sluggish to observers.

Analysts believe Russia had expected to make far more gains and, crucially, to face far less resistance from Ukrainian forces and volunteer fighters as they attacked various towns and cities in the north, east and south of the country.


Russian forces have so far claimed one major city ? Kherson ? having heavily shelled and surrounded the port in the last several days.

Meanwhile, fighting continues around the other major cities of Kharkiv, Mariupol and Kyiv, although a huge column of Russian military vehicles which has been snaking its way to the capital this week has appeared to have stalled in recent days amid unconfirmed reports of logistical problems and food and fuel shortages.

Summing up Russia?s challenges, senior military fellows at the Atlantic Council think tank said in an online post Wednesday that Russia had made key strategic errors in its first week of combat, particularly in its failure to establish air superiority and thus provide air support to its ground forces.

?During the first week of the war, Russian ground forces have become bogged down outside of the northern Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Kyiv due to their failure to establish air superiority (which has resulted in significant aircraft and helicopter losses), too few troops to execute three simultaneous thrusts (toward Kyiv and Kharkiv, and north from Crimea), poor coordination of fires and maneuver, significant logistical issues, and stronger than expected Ukrainian resistance,? they said in an assessment published by the think tank.

Raja Bomoh denies ritual to hold back floodwaters was heretical

IPOH (Jan 6): Raja Bomoh, a.k.a Ibrahim Mat Zin, has filed a police report to deny the ritual he performed on the banks of Sungai Perak to hold back floodwaters goes against Islam.

A 25-minute video of the 'tepung tawar' ceremony at Dataran JPS Teluk Intan, which involved releasing flowers and leaves among other things into the river to be carried by the current to the sea, has gone viral.

A woman called Puteri Zaleha is also shown seated next to him on the ground singing a Puteri Mayang Sari song while the Quran is open in front of them.

Hilir Perak district police chief, ACP Ahmad Adnan Basri, confirmed that a report was made by the 71-year-old at 12.30am at the Teluk Intan police station.

“Raja Bomoh lodged the report to rebut allegations that his ritual contravened Islamic beliefs. He said he was just praying that people won’t be harmed by floods," he said.

Ahmad Adnan said the report has been referred to the Perak Islamic Affairs Department (JAIPk) for investigation.

On Wednesday, JAIPk director, Datuk Mohd Yusop Husin, reportedly said Ibrahim and others who participated in the ceremony will be called for questioning.

He said the case will be investigated under Section 14 of the State’s Crimes (Syariah) Enactment 1992 for besmirching or insulting Islam.

If China determine to cut down carbon emissions, the steel price will up over long term. Question now is how determine the China government to do so. Many scare the steel stock will repeat the performance of glove player. But if China goverment insist to cut carbon emissions over long term, then the price of steel will increase over long term, so does the share price of steel player

KFC restaurants nationwide will add Beyond Meat’s plant-based chicken to menus, starting Monday for a limited time.
Fast food companies have recently tested or added plant-based items as more customers look to trim meat consumption.
KFC and Beyond Meat say they are bullish on the product despite the launch coming amid the surge in the Covid omicron variant.

KFC restaurants nationwide will add Beyond Meat’s plant-based chicken to its menus, starting Monday for a limited time.

The launch comes after years of testing from the Yum Brands chain and Beyond Meat to create a meat substitute that mimicked the taste and texture of whole muscle chicken, like chicken breast.

The two companies first tested plant-based chicken at an Atlanta restaurant in August 2019 — and sold out their limited supply in less than five hours. KFC then tested the new item in Nashville, Charlotte, N.C., and southern California two years ago.

The popular fried chicken chain is counting on customers making healthier choices to fulfill typical New Year’s resolutions. “This is really about where the customer is going; they want to eat more plant-based proteins,” said Kevin Hochman, U.S. president of KFC. “It’s January, so it’s a time of New Year’s resolutions and wanting to do something different in your diet.”

More Americans are embracing a so-called flexitarian diet in which consumers cut down on their meat consumption for health and environmental reasons. That has driven the growing popularity of plant-based substitutes.
