Coronavirus doctor's diary: Will Covid be with us forever, like flu

The antibodies that protect against infection with Covid-19 fade over time, so it's likely that vaccination will not provide a permanent defence.

Israel, a global leader in COVID vaccinations, finds limits

When it comes to fighting the coronavirus, Israel is discovering the limits of vaccines.

In an impressive feat, more than a third of Israelis have received at least one shot in mere weeks, and perhaps putting the country on track to inoculate nearly its entire adult population by the end of March.

Netanyahu on Thursday said that among people over 60, the first group vaccinated, serious cases of hospitalizations have dropped 26% and confirmed infections have fallen 45% over the past 16 days. “This is a direct result of the vaccinations,” he said. “The vaccines work.”

But other key indicators, including deaths and new infections, remain high. Israel has been reporting one of the highest rates in the developed world. Nearly 5,000 people have died, more than a quarter of them in January alone.

Even with these early signs of success, it’s increasingly clear that there will be no pandemic day-after, a celebratory moment when people are cleared to flood back to work, hold large family gatherings or resume the social lives they once knew.

Reopening will depend on many factors, including efforts to halt the spread of the highly contagious variants and whether the public takes the proper precautions. “Vaccinations are very important, but they are not going to solve all the problems.”

Despite all this good news, the coronavirus is not finished with humanity yet. COVID-19 will continue to circulate widely. There is a growing realisation that the virus is likely to find a permanent home in humans.

One reason the coronavirus will persist is that making and distributing enough vaccine to protect the world’s 7.8 billion people is a Herculean task.

To add to the burden, the potency of a jab may fade, making boosters necessary. Outside the rich world, 85 per cent of countries have yet to start their vaccination programs

But until the billions of people who live in poorer countries around the world have felt the prick of a needle — which may not be before 2023 — they will remain fuel for the coronavirus.

Another reason for COVID’s persistence is that, even as vaccines are making SARS-CoV-2 less infectious and protecting people against death, new viral variants are undoing some of their good work. For one thing, successful variants are more infectious

Another reason SARS-CoV-2 will persist is that lots of people will choose to remain a target by refusing vaccination.

The endemic endgame is nigh?

Even miracles have their limits. Vaccines against the coronavirus have arrived sooner and worked better than many people dared hope. Without them, the pandemic threatened to take more than 150 million lives.

Yet, while the world rolls up a sleeve, it has become clear that expecting vaccines to see off COVID-19 is mistaken. Instead the disease will circulate for years, and seems likely to become endemic.

Speaking to American Muslim Health Professionals, Fauci - President Biden's chief medical advisor - said it's also likely that Americans will be wearing masks for a considerable period of time.

What type of immunity that the vaccine bestows. “Will it give us purely functional immunity” — meaning a vaccinated person is protected but can still transmit the virus to others — “or will it give us sterilizing immunity?”. Sterilizing immunity means that a person is both protected and also unable to spread the virus.

Those who have had the shot may still be capable of catching and passing the virus to others. If that’s the case, they could be just as likely to perpetuate the pandemic as unvaccinated and asymptomatic carriers.

Therefore you still need to use mask even after vaccination and at the same time other PPEs depending on the situation and works needed to be carried out

Experts reject Netanyahu’s claim Israel is almost ‘done with COVID’

Doctors and health experts have been pouring cold water on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Israel may soon be “done with COVID, period” due to the success of the vaccination operation.

“This is a political, not a professional, statement,” Prof. Hagai Levine, epidemiologist and former head of Israel’s doctors union, told The Times of Israel.

The Hebrew University epidemiologist Prof. Ronit Calderon-Margalit called Netanyahu’s prediction “inaccurate,” and commented: “The virus will keep circulating in younger adults and children, some of whom will get severely ill

“We agree that a rapid and extensive vaccination of the more susceptible population, especially 50-plus, is important, even critical. However, it will not solve the problem completely and we will need to establish safety measures for the younger population, especially in light of the new variants.”

2.Just about everyone needs to get vaccinated-

According to new nationwide poll, a growing number of U.S. adults say that they want the vaccine as soon as possible. That’s the good news. The bad news is that about half of the population is still hesitant or unwilling to get vaccinated, the polling found.

“The concept of herd immunity is that if enough people in a community are immune to an infection, that will stop the infection from spreading,”

Herd immunity thresholds are hard to calculate. Estimates have ranged all over the place, but have tended to land somewhere in the neighborhood of 60% to 75%. Complicating matters is the recent emergence of new, more-transmissible strains. “With these new strains, herd immunity estimates are likely going to be higher than what we thought before,” says Swartzberg. “We may be talking about 80% to 85% of the population needing to be immune.”

It’s going to take 7 years to get back to ‘normal’ after Covid

Bloomberg has built the biggest database of Covid-19 vaccines given around the world and, by their calculations, it will take seven years.

Number-crunchers at the publication say it will take that long to reach leading US doctor Anthony Fauci’s estimate for the herd immunity threshold of 75 per cent of people inoculated globally.

7 years and that is best case scenario to get to 75% global herd immunity.

There is so much that can go wrong. Poor vaccine roll outs, insufficient supply of the vaccine and the new mutations. The fact that a global 75% herd immunity will need to be an annual immunisation event if it is to mean anything.

As Covid-19 Vaccines Raise Hope, Cold Reality Dawns That Illness Is Likely Here to Stay

Vaccination drives hold out the promise of curbing Covid-19, but governments and businesses are increasingly accepting what epidemiologists have long warned: The pathogen will circulate for years, or even decades, leaving society to coexist with Covid-19 much as it does with other endemic diseases like flu, measles, and HIV.

Ease of transmission, new strains, limits of vaccination programs all mean Covid-19 will be around for years.

The head of the EU's disease control agency warned on Friday that the novel coronavirus could last indefinitely even as global infections slowed by nearly half in the last month and vaccine rollouts gathered pace in parts of the world.

For year 2021, the estimated ASP for Supermax is USD80, cost per 1000 pieces is USD20, thus the PAT is (26b/1000) x 60 x 4 x 0.76 = RM4.74b. Thus, EPS is 4.74/2.72 = RM1.74. With about 30% DPR, its dividend 2021 will be around RM0.52.

For 2022, the estimated PAT (ASP = USD50, production = 48b, cost = USD 20 per 1000 pieces) is 30 x 0.048 x 4 x 0.76 = Rm4.38b. EPS is RM1.61 and Dividend (30% DPR) is RM0.48.

For 2023, the estimated PAT (ASP = USD35, production = 48b, cost = USD 20 per 1000 pieces) is 15 x 0.048 x 4 x 0.76 = Rm2.18b. EPS is RM0.8 and Dividend (30% DPR) is RM0.24.

With the average PE since IPO, PE15, we will get TP RM12 at 2023. The current share price is RM6.24. Thus, our modal is 6.24 - 1.24 = RM5. Then, our earning percentage in 3 years is 140%. The annual earning is about 47%.

Do remember, I do not have the production figure in 2023 and it may increase another 30% to fulfill the global organic growth of glove demands. Another thing is the ASP may be higher than USD 35, which may flow USD 40 -45 since Supermax's business model will have higher earning.

In conclusion, where can we get these type of guaranteed earn share investment?

For Topglove 120 billion glove annual production in 2023, the ASP will be around USD35 (based on CIMB report) and its cost is around USD17 per 1000 pieces (lets us assume USD20), the PBT will be 15 x 4 x 0.12 b = RM7.2b. Thus, PAT will be 7.2 x 0.76 = RM5.472b. Estimated EPS is 5.472/8.202 = RM0.667. If we are conservative and take its average PE since IPO, which is 20, we will get RM13.30.

Base on the 70% DPP, the EPS for the remaining 3 quarters will be around RM1.35 and the dividend yield is RM0.945. For 2022, the PAT will be around 10.03b (ASP = USD50 per 1000 pieces and production is 110b). Thus, EPS 2022 is RM1.22 and dividend (50% payout) is RM0.61.

The total dividend for these 3 years is RM0.945 + 0.61 + 0.33 = RM1.88

If you bought by last Thursday with RM6.18 per share, the money you have invested is RM6.18 - 1.88 = RM4.3.

With the projected TP at RM13.30, we will earn 209% in less than 3 years and annual earning is around 70%. If the Mr. Market gave a higher PE, we sure will earn more.

Where can we get this kind of SURE WIN investment?
Hope all the glove comrades WIN the ultimate moment.

The PPE supply chain is a case of the 'haves' and the 'have nots'

Gloves and masks are in short supply, and many organizations are blowing through their budgets as they attempt to source in-demand equipment.
