PETALING JAYA (Nov 15): Palette Multimedia Bhd chairman and managing director Eg Kah Yee is “surprised” after My EG Services Bhd managing director Wong Thean Soon disposed his holdings in Palette while refraining from making any passive investments in listed equities in the future.

Eg said the announcement made to the media by Wong was uncalled for and unprofessional.

“Actually, he sold off (the stake) a long time ago; the sad thing is why he (Wong has to) go to the media, I don’t know. I have no idea (as to) why he has to go to media and announce it.

“He (Wong) probably sold it (his stake) 10 days ago. We checked on the shareholder list — his name is not there. He announced on the (media) on the Nov 13. To me, it is very uncalled for. No one asked you to do (it). It’s a surprise,” he told the media, after the group's annual general meeting today.

Eg suggested instead that Wong could have actually made a general statement that he will not invest in the listed company.

“You can make the statement general. That’s it. You don’t have to name it. Because it is really unprofessional,” he said.

Palette’s share price had rallied after Wong and equity investor Brahmal Vasudevan emerged among the group’s investors. Wong was listed in the group’s annual report as the fifth-largest shareholder with a 3.92% stake, while Brahmal — who is the founder and chief executive officer of private equity firm Creador Sdn Bhd — was the second-largest shareholder of its warrant, with a 13.77% stake.

Palette is one of the two companies that Wong had said to have acquired as passive investments.

At 12.10pm, Palette share price rose 4.5 sen or 12.68% to 40 sen, with 23.34 million shares traded, for a market capitalisation of RM116.89 million.
