Cimb changed to reporting after 5pm since a few quarters ago. Nothing much to do with good/ bad results. But back envelope calculation tells me the best result is probably 50-60% fall in yoy net profits. So don’t expect too much ya

But today, banks are very well capitalized, especially Asian banks. Cannot expect that kind of bargain during subprime crisis

I mortgaged my properties to buy Bank of America in loads when it was less than 3 dollars. Made good money from this. Looking back now, was it a once in a decade opportunity?
enigmatic [control your emotions, discipline your mind] "Once in a decade opportunity to accumulate on weakness."
Such a strong phrase to be used.

Maybank deferred its dividend for this quarter, they’ll pay but not this quarter as usual. Banking taikor has spoken, expect cimb and others to do the same. Once in a decade opportunity to accumulate on weakness. After heavy provisionings will be writebacks on top of interest rate increases, as long as you can wait for a couple of years. Today sold all gloves for banks
2020-08-27 20:05 | Report Abuse
Maybank will pay dividend la, just not this quarter. Slightly adjust the schedule in extra-ordinary situation
2020-08-27 13:54 | Report Abuse
But I think Maybank did not do active provisioning in the last quarter, now only start doing it. Other banks have increased provisioning since last quarter
2020-08-27 13:50 | Report Abuse
Yes, opr is just the noise, real impact is npl. Maybank results dropped mainly because impairment for loans increased 3.5 times from 400m to 1.8b, excluding this, operating income act improved from 7.9b to 8.2b
2020-08-27 13:43 | Report Abuse
Impairment for bad loans 1.8b, previous quarter only 400m. Increase 3.5 times... without this impairment, it should be a good quarter.. top glove can make more than 2b consistently?

Anyway, can start nibble ad, rebound soon, especially if other big banks also report better expected results today and tomorrow. Also, cimb will sell the bad debts and recover some monies after this quarter
2020-08-27 01:53 | Report Abuse
If another big provision, must sue the management ad, must be something very wrong, need Macc to investigate any hanky panky
2020-08-26 22:13 | Report Abuse
Moratorium stops all repayments for 6 months, negative cash flow due to this, maybe will continue for another quarter
2020-08-26 22:10 | Report Abuse
Cimb needs to make full provisions on 2 O&G accounts, hinleong and another one (from China also based in sg), 1b provisions in total, half in q1, balance in q2. The management ad gave this guidance a few months back
2020-08-26 14:26 | Report Abuse
Well, unless cimb also goreng gloves kaw kaw lat, then maybe trading income/NOII can offset the provisions
2020-08-26 14:24 | Report Abuse
Ambank better than expected results due to trading income (goreng gloves maybe) and lower one day modification loss, 58m is actually lower than the 80m given during management guidance. Cimb still need to provision for the 500m this quarter, so need to wait one more quarter for more upsides
2020-08-26 13:35 | Report Abuse
Better trading income and lower one day modification loss. Now you know who goreng gloves to sky high valuations
2020-08-26 13:21 | Report Abuse
Very much better than expected results

Thread moving slower, die hard supporters also gave up ad. Now is the transition phase to bring in new faces who will naively support this rubbish counter again. Basically base building for the next pump and dump. Punters can prepare to accumulate for next goreng session. Likely can buy cheaper in the coming weeks

Now Microsoft also quietly building data center in boleh land. plus alibaba’s existing data center, need gp’s? Did you see how ppl do business? Quietly build, no need heboh, no need pattern liao liao. All gimmicks for pump and dump. Again, Microsoft is vertically integrated. Gp need this mou la, that mou la. All shows for naive supporters

This counter is a vehicle for ccpuan to pump and dump. Proven uncountable times, latest just last week. What are the prospects of the business when management is only focusing on short term gain by manipulating share price? New faces appear all the time pinning high hopes. But Naive idiots come and go, pump and dump nvr dies

Looks similar to steel bar counters years back. Downtrend started before bumper profit was announced. Similarly many supporters was harping in super profits in coming quarters and don’t want to sell. Tested supports multiple times and finally broken and went all way down to below 1, right from where it started. When bumper profit was announced, it was trading at less than half the peak. Because share market moves at least 6 months ahead..

Laugh die me when reading funny comments here. I heard that Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet are also attracted by GP capabilities and wanna pp 20% each so that they can jointly develop cloud business in MY.
But wait, why need to pp and work with GP? Cloud business need to be developed locally? Their own cloud framework not good enough? LOL
2020-08-12 23:12 | Report Abuse
Funny thread, full of funny comments. Dilution of 20% but what’s the proprietary tech that gp is trying to develop? What cloud business specifically? Fight with azure and aws? Seriously?

Funds shifted positions from glove to traditional blue chips. The concerted rise for non-glove klci components is evident. If i were fm, I would have closed my position for glove since this is the best timing when retailers are rushing in to buy due to the expected good results. Don’t be the fool who hold the ticket last when supply-demand normalizes

Yes, disbursements from SRF will offset losses from HP thingy. See briefing from ambank when they released the quarter two weeks ago. It mentioned interest free funds being loaned to SMEs at 3.5%, resulting in HP losses being reduced from 400m to 80m
2020-07-05 20:37 | Report Abuse
Ad reported by management before releasing quarter, hontop and hinleong. These are the two problematic loans which require full provision about 1b, The former has been impaired in last quarter 430m. Now the legal suit is to try recover at least something from someone, actually something positive because any recovery can reverse the provisions made, which is a gain

SpartanFury This is not exactly news... in 2019 at the EGM it was approved that 10% shares would be issued and kept aside for private placement in Q3. Basically, it had already been in existence. Just not in anyone's hands..hell if you all look back a few pages you would see the discussion of waiting the new private placement as yesterday was the beginnin of Q3.

Ad warned, reality should knock some sense into sweet dreams of die-hard supporters. Told ya sales are drying up, especially after contributions from Star 1 and 2 have been mostly realized and Star 3 sales hit the wall, expect next quarter to be much worse with the halt of all construction activities. With almost nil revenue from progressive billings and cost of business around 70m, expect loss of 60m to 80m for next quarter

Pls la, when and where did you see "human behavior has change, more and more people using glove,"? mask and sanitizer are more common, glove? seriously? kidding yourself can reverse the trend? even mask and sanitizer are easily available nowadays
sunshine99 freetospeak is right
Just take a look at TG share price in 2009 and in 2020, did it fall back to Pre SARS price after SARS has been declare combat? It may adjust back but it will keep growing. At the same time, glove production capacity also keep growing, why the company can still make money? Because human behavior has change, more and more people using glove, it’s still a very big market in 3rd world country.
By the way I also buy into supermx after I read his comment few months back

Imagine 500m provision as guided, plus modification loss, and additional provisions. These three could top 1b which is equivalent to the operating income for the last few quarters. But cimb may want to avoid a loss, so might adjust the additional provisions to show some profits, maybe. But the price now is ad quite low. In 2014, cimb also made huge provisions due to fall in oil price. Made only 200m that one quarter, but share price was 4.5. Today 3.4, you judge can buy or not lo
