Hundreds of thousands of people have been given two Chinese COVID-19 vaccine candidates as part of an emergency program, without a single case of infection or adverse effects, a senior official of a state-owned vaccine developer has said.
The two vaccines, developed by China National Biotec Group (CNBG), are expected to enter the market as soon as this December, and two shots will cost less than 1,000 yuan (about 146 U.S. dollars), said Zhou Song, the company's general legal counsel.
They are still undergoing phase three trials for safety and efficacy - usually, the last step before regulatory approval - in more than 10 other countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Peru, Morocco, Argentina, and Jordan, since the epidemic has been basically put under control in China.
The two vaccine candidates, together with another one developed by Beijing-based Sinovac, have been approved for civilian emergency use after reliable results in phase one and phase two trials.
The emergency program began in late July, allowing "high-risk" groups, such as medical workers, diplomats, and people who traveled to foreign countries still struggling with the pandemic, to be vaccinated.
"Tens of thousands of people vaccinated have traveled to countries and regions with high risks of COVID-19. No one has been infected so far, and this proved the effectiveness of the vaccines," Zhou said.
How long will the immunity last?
Zhou said the vaccines could protect an individual against the novel coronavirus for one to three years, based on the results of animal experiments, phase one and phase two trials, and similar vaccines using similar technology.
"We have kept monitoring the first 180 volunteers, who received the vaccines more than five months ago, and found the levels of the antibodies for the coronavirus are still stabilizing at the peak, and there is no sign of them dropping," he said.
The coronavirus has mutated, will the vaccines still work?
The vaccines should be able to work against all strains of the novel coronavirus, according to Zhou.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has been urged to join the Covax Facility, a global initiative led by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to develop and distribute effective vaccines against Covid-19.
Covax aims to deliver two billion doses of safe and effective vaccines that have passed regulatory approval with WHO prequalification by the end of 2021.
By taking part in the initiative, Malaysia will be offered the vaccines along with 170 countries that have signed up as of yesterday. The vaccines will be available to all participating countries in quantities proportional to their population.
As the Sept 18 deadline approaches, the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society has urged the government to sign up to be guaranteed access to the vaccines.
Its president Amrahi Buang said yesterday that trust can be placed on WHO, which is a global leader in health and a very relevant international organisation in addressing the pandemic throughout the world.
“It will be wise for Malaysia to make it to the list before the deadline,“ he said.
“If we are not part of the global initiative, how are we going to contribute to combat the virus together with other nations?
“Of course, we have to get our hands on the vaccines. At the moment, we don’t have the patients to do proper clinical trials.”
Noting that two Malaysian companies – Duopharma Biotech and Pharmaniaga – will be involved in the fill-and-finish of the vaccines, Amrahi said efforts could be made to manufacture them in the country.
“If Malaysia is part of Covax, then these two facilities could produce halal certified vaccines adhering to pharmaceutical standards.
“Being the only global halal pharmaceutical standard in the world, this aspect is a plus point for the country. We hope the government will ensure effective vaccines are made available to our population as quickly as possible,” he added.
Failure to join the Covax initiative would mean that Malaysia needs to rely on a buffer of doses for emergency and humanitarian use in the event of severe outbreaks of Covid cases.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba had recently said Malaysia was in no rush to join the international plan.
He said the country would be able to deal with the infections and flatten the curve to single digits even without vaccines.
“The currently available information and data about the Covax Facility are still unclear, including the implementation of the Covax Facility, the lack of sharing of clear clinical data on the vaccine that will be developed by manufacturers, the governance structure of the Covax Facility that has yet to be finalised, as well as the roles and functions of the participating countries in making decisions and policies in regard to the Covax Facility, among others,” Adham was quoted by portal CodeBlue as saying yesterday.
“In line with that, the Health Ministry will continue to monitor current developments on the development of Covid-19 vaccines by manufacturers or manufacturing countries. Besides that, for now, the ministry will continue to monitor the latest information and data on this Covax Facility before making any decision to join the Covax initiative.”

SEVERAL overseas pharmaceutical companies have expressed interest in making Malaysia the Covid-19 vaccine bottling location.
However, Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar (picture) said the government, via the Ministry of Health (MoH), is still evaluating data from clinical trials conducted by several companies and institutions abroad.
“MoH is in the process of viewing and analysing data from clinical trials conducted by several companies and institutions from abroad.
“Once we are satisfied with the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines of these companies, then we will purchase the vaccine,” he said at a press conference after launching the Social Impact Matching (SIM) grant at the National Science Centre in Bukit Damansara last Friday.
Khairy Jamaluddin added that he has been working closely with several countries to get detailed information on the vaccines developed by those countries.
“If we make a bulk purchase, then we will have the option to implement the ‘fill and finish’ process in Malaysia. However, we have not made any decision yet because we do not know which vaccine we will get,” he added.
Last July, Khairy Jamaluddin said Malaysia was ready to bottle the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as the vaccine was discovered.
He said, for that purpose, two government-linked companies, Duopharma Bhd and Pharmaniaga Bhd, have agreed for their factories to be used for the “fill and finish” process of the vaccine.

So which one we should trust. Because Gates can predict this type of pandemic in 2015, better trust Gates on this field. So just assume earlier or middle of next year should be come out. the sooner the better
So choose which one better, accumulation year is this year that just easy peasy..
