Water: Syabas entitled to adjust water tariff, High Court told. Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor SB (Syabas) financial adviser Thein Kwee Sim said that the tariff adjustment was determined strictly, in accordance with the procedure and formula provided in the Concession Agreement. She said the agreed tariff is RM1.89 per cubic metre and Syabas is entitled to RM1.05bn as tariff compensation for the period from Jan 1, 2009 to March 31, 2011, based on the aforesaid rate. PORT KLANG: Water talks between the Federal and Selangor state governments will begin next week.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said on Sunday he had sent a few notes to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry to set the parameters of the talks.

"The acid test is whether privatisation or re-structuring will benefit the people of Selangor," Khalid told reporters at the Port Klang state constituency Hari Raya open house.

The restructuring of the water services industry is one of the promises made by Pakatan Rakyat to the people of Selangor while campaigning in the general election.

Khalid said the state government is financially strong to deliver promises in the electoral manifesto as it had around RM2.5bil in cash reserves.

Another big-ticket item is affordable housing, which Khalid said the process of rolling out is being reviewed.

"The process must be implemented to that it is done in an orderly manner.

"(The houses) must be factory fitted, so that it would only take eight months to build at a set cost," he said.
