Business Activities
Zantat Holdings is principally involved the production of calcium carbonate (CC)
namely ground calcium carbonate (GCC) and CC dispersions, kaolin dispersion (a
new product introduced in 2020, used as fillers in the production of synthetic
rubber gloves), as well as other business activities such as the processing of
ultrafine precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) powder, trading of other
industrial minerals (mainly talcum powder and limestone chips), and sales of
limestone quarry products. These industrial minerals are used for various
industrial applications, namely for the manufacturing of plastics, gloves, paints
and coatings, and rubber products.
Zantat Group’s business activities are segmented as follow:
▪ Production of GCC involves crushing and grinding limestone into various
particle sizes, ranging from 1.5 microns up to 25 microns. Generally, the
Group obtains limestone from its limestone reserves in Perak as well as
purchase from third-party. In addition, it has 2 pieces of leasehold lands
with limestone reserves each in its Perak Quarry 1 and Perak Quarry 2. The
Group is operating Perak Quarry 1 to produce GCC while there are no
activities on Perak Quarry 2. The quarrying and primary crushing process is
undertaken by a third-party contractor, and it has its crusher plant at
Zantat Perak Plant 2 to carry out secondary crushing process.
Despite owning 2 leasehold lands with limestone reserves, the group
choose to purchase limestone rocks and chips from third parties as it is not
their focus to carry out quarrying operations and it does not have in-house
expertise and equipment in quarry operations;
▪ Production of CC dispersions involves GCC or PCC powder that has gone
through a wet grinding process and the final products are in slurry form.
The GCC powder is sourced internally, while the PCC powder is imported
from China. The production of CC dispersions is carried out at KL Plant;
▪ Production of kaolin dispersion involves kaolin with added water or
solvents. It functions as a filler to produce synthetic rubber gloves. It
sources for Kaolin powder mainly from China, Indonesia and Malaysia, and
produces the kaolin dispersion at KL Plant.
▪ Bioplastic compounding are formulated input materials comprising
bioplastic resins and additives such as calcium carbonate and/or pigments
used to make bioplastic products. The Group is in the process of expanding
its business downstream into manufacturing bioplastic compounds. It has
installed the bioplastic compounding production lines and is undergoing the
product testing phase. It has started providing samples to customers for
testing in September 2023. Customers’ orders are expected to commence
during the first quarter of 2024.
▪ Other business activities include the processing of ultrafine PCC powder,
trading of other industrial minerals such as talcum powder, and sales of
limestone quarry products.
The Group has 4 production plants (3 are located in Perak and 1 is located in KL),
as well as 2 pieces of leasehold lands with limestone reserves in Perak serving
approximately 300 customers in India, Malaysia and others.
