Invest in Keck Seng only if you are prepared to take a long term view. Land in Johor Bahru is getting more and more scarce and expensive and Keck Seng is one of the largest landowners there. Hopefully the latest quarterly results and interim dividend to be announced later this month will give its share price a big boost.

ykloh, I think it is unfair to label the management as disgracefully incompetent. The management did make a wise decision to dispose of its shares in Parkway Holdings 4 years ago and made a huge profit. Any investor who had bought Keck Seng shares in early 2010 and held till today would have returned a capital gain of over 20% per year compounded over the past 4.5 years. And this doesn't take into account the dividend that had been paid and notwithstanding an almost 20% drop from its peak achieved about 8 months ago. Keck Seng's management isn't incompetent, just too conservative and not proactive enough.

With so much hype on L&G over the past few weeks, I am surprised that there is still no significant breakthrough in L&G's share price. Hopefully investors don't have to wait for long before L&G touches 70 sen a share.

Keck Seng's directors/major share holders and their associates together already hold more than 60% of Keck Seng's share capital. If you want to take over Keck Seng, you probably would need to offer them over RM 25 a share before they decide to part with their holdings. It is wise of them to keep Keck Seng at this level so that should they want to privatize the company, they don't have to fork out too much money to pay the small investors. May be Keck Seng's cash reserve is already sufficient.

TA's share price went up due to improved earnings, from under 5 sen per share for financial year ending 31/1/2013 to over 8 sen per share for financial year ending 31/1/2014. Its earnings improved further during the first quarter of financial year ending 31/1/2015. Many other counters have performed even better. DKSH went up from RM 2 to over RM 9 (now RM 7.6) in less than 3 years, Inari went up from 70 sen to over RM 3 in 18 months, Seal went up from 50 sen to over RM 1.40 in less than 9 months.

The interim dividend to be announced next month is unlikely to exceed 5 sen per share. If the company just maintains its total dividend payout at 10 to 12 sen a year, not many investors will be interested to buy this counter. Keck Seng has sufficient properties like Menara Keck Seng and Regency tower in Malaysia and hotels in Toronto and Hawaii to launch a REIT.

For TA to hit RM 1.00 within the next few trading days isn't a big problem. The question is how high it can go after that. It all depends on the big boys. You and I can only be followers, not leaders.

So far only about 100 million new shares have been issued since Oct last year due to conversion of ICULS. The total number of shares issued increases by just under 20% , so theoretically L&G's EPS should decrease by just under 20% as well assuming the company has not made use of the additional fund to make more money.

L&G is currently trading at a PE of less than 4.5. There is really no logic for this to happen as the prospects for maintaining its earnings are still bright. What is more a 2 sen dividend is in the pipeline. Big time investors may suddenly decide to re-rate this cash rich counter one day, you never know.

TA's first quarter earnings is quite commendable. At 3.37 sen, it is an improvement of 70% over the corresponding period last year. Its annualized earnings per share comes up to 13.48 sen. Assuming a PE of 10, TA should be worth around RM 1.35 per share. Just sit back and wait for TA to surge tomorrow. What's more, TA will trade ex-dividend tomorrow.

I think what she had revealed to the reporters regarding the company's earnings for the first quarter for financial year ending 30/4/2015 is likely to be true. So just be a bit more patient and wait for the announcement of the results. Moreover, we still have the 2.8 sen dividend which should support TA's share price at above 80 sen.

Those who bother to read in detail Keck Seng's latest annual report and compare it with the year before would have found out that major share holders (those holding above 100,000 shares each) had been net sellers of Keck Seng shares, selling almost 2 million shares though the 5 substantial share holders picked up a total of 100,000 shares. The total number of share holders also increased by 468.

It appears that Keck Seng's management have become more and more proactive over the past few years. First, they disposed of Parkway Holdings shares and made a huge profit. Then they divested some of the company's listed investments and now acquired a hotel in New York for US$ 82 million. This is certainly much better than keeping money in banks and earn 1% interest a year. Property is still very reasonably priced in the US.

There is no such thing as no tax this year. TA has already paid the 25% corporate tax. During the past few years, companies still having 108 balance were allowed to pay franked dividends (gross dividends with 25% tax deducted) and you could then claim the tax deducted from the IRD. Starting this year, all companies must pay single tier dividends(no tax is deducted) irrespective of whether the companies have used up all their 108 balance. The net effect is the Government now keeps all the 25% corporate tax that it receives whereas in the past it has to return a portion of the 25% tax back to some small investors.

Since the company has more cash than its market capitalization, the most logical thing the management should do is to buy up all the shares not owned by its directors and associates, using the company's cash reserve.

cefiro22, Keck Seng dropped to below RM 1.20 per share in 2003. Any one who had bought Keck Seng at RM 1.20 per share then and kept until 5 months ago and disposed of at RM 7.95 per share would have reaped over 1100% return, including the dividends you received over the years. It is almost 25% compounded return every year. Those who had invested in Keck Seng at below RM 4 per share about 18 months ago and sell at RM 7 now would have realized a capital gain of over 75%, excluding dividends. Keck Seng has net cash of over RM 920 million today.

cheaterecoworld, Even if you buy Maybank at RM 9.90 a share, you still won't die. Buying penny stocks (less than 50 sen a share) will make you die faster. Probably over 90% of penny stocks are losing money year after year and many don't have a viable business model. Only speculators and syndicates would buy such stocks. If you gamble with syndicates, you will lose eventually. They can see the cards which you and I can't. My advice is, if you really want to play penny stocks, you have to move in and out very fast, shouldn't be greedy and the market sentiment must be good also.

Keck Seng's earnings this year should improve further from last year's 41.3 sen a share, judging from the booming property market in Johor Bahru. I think it is fairly valued at RM 7 per share but Keck Seng's share price could be re-rated on day by investors, you never know. Land is getting more and more scarce in JB. It is illogical to have a book value of several thousand ringgit for plantation land in JB.
