elshi, we are not greedy but we are finding a best solution that could ease what we are facing now. Even if ophir submitted an official bid on Monday, how much will and can they offer? If less than 120 pp or maybe even 130 pp, Don think salamander will agree upon and accept their bid. There are many issues to discuss and resolve, etc. Parties' interest and controlling power, salamander debts and more, not as easy as a clean cut and simple sales and purchase of company stake transaction.

Looking at the Cepsa proposal,their actual offer price is 121p as compare to Sona 160p, and the 24p only come into picture with condition

I have a more positive view. Though Cepsa is offering 121p and one contingent value right of ''up'' to 24 pence per share - a further 24p a share if Salamander’s assets off Thailand come good. See the word ''UP TO'', they might only receive 10 pence at the end.

Secondly, if the deal made, they will only receive the 121p and the contingent at a later stage (but when?). Many factors and uncertainties may affect the contingent value as they will only getting paid (the contingency if the assets off Thailand come good)....

At least Sona's offer is still the most attractive (160 p) as compare to the others. If they made the deal, they can always consider to dispose the remaining 60% later.

PETALING JAYA: Sona Petroleum Bhd has reiterated its firm commitment to its shareholders to pursue the transactions announced with Salamander Energy Plc (Salamander) for an effective interest in the B8/38 and G4/50 concessions in Bualang.

Managing director Datuk Sri Hadian Hashim said it was aware of the ongoing speculation regarding rival bids on a corporate level for Salamander and the impact of oil prices on Sona’s agreement with the London-listed firm.

Note: If Salamander accepted other offer, they will need to undergo months of due diligence and a lot of background work. But if they accept Sona offer, the cash is already in their pocket. If the money could ease their current debt, they can decide to sell the remaining of 60% later and even at a higher price or maybe sell to Sona in the coming future, whose know.
