KUALA LUMPUR: Johan Holdings Bhd's share price climbed to a high of 34 sen on Friday, its highest since May this year in active trade as investors expected a spillover effect from George Kent (M) Bhd.

At midday, it was up 2.5 sen to 33 sen with 20.38 million shares done, the highest volume since July 19.

Johan is involved in ceramic products and property and its chairman is Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock – who has a direct and indirect stake totalling 36.2%.

Tan had been raising his stake in Johan via Kin Fai International Ltd, which bought six million shares on April 3 at 18.3 sen and another six million shares the next day at 19.1 sen.

Tan is also the driving force behind George Kent (M) Bhd which manufactures water meters and valves and now has a strong presence in infrastructure via the LRT3 project

IoT solutions market in GCC to hit $11bn by 2025

The Internet of Things (IoT) solutions market in the GCC region is poised for solid growth and is likely to be worth $11 billion over the next eight years, said an industry expert.

The IoT has the potential to unlock up to 11 per cent in incremental GDP driving economic growth in the GCC region, according to AT Kearney’s latest report, ‘IoT in the GCC: Building a Brighter, More Sustainable Future’.

By 2025, the IoT solutions market will be generating a potential value for the economy of nearly $160 billion; implying that every dollar spent on IoT solutions could produce nearly $14.50 in economic value, stated the report.

According to AT Kearney, the region’s governments have been increasingly investing in next-generation technologies such as IoT, in an effort to move their economies away from heavy reliance on oil.

An exponentially growing ecosystem of connected devices and systems, IoT offers a major avenue for innovation and economic growth, and has the potential to address many of the region’s challenges, it added.

Microsoft profit rises on shift to cloud computing

SAN FRANCISCO: Microsoft on Thursday reported that its quarterly profit climbed to $6.5 billion, lifted by its shift to computing services hosted in the internet cloud.

The US technology giant said revenue in the recently ended quarter rose to $23.3 billion, with $7.4 billion of that due to its "intelligent cloud" offerings.
