Hot Stock: Puncak Niaga, KPS jump on potential takeover of water assets

KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd rose 12.55% after Kenanga Investment Bank said the water-treatment service provider’s shares could be valued as high as RM5 if the Selangor state government acquires the company's water assets.

At 2:54pm, Puncak Niaga jumped 29 sen to RM2.01 after being traded at its intraday high of RM2.63. The counter saw a trading volume of 10.11 million shares.

Last Friday, Kenanga analyst Iqbal Zainal said in a note that Puncak Niaga’s fair value may come between RM3.50 and RM5 a share should the Selangor government agrees to pay the outstanding receivables to the company amounting to RM2.7 billion for tariff compensation and provided that Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd agrees to fund the surplus of Puncak Niaga’s water assets.

Iqbal said Puncak Niaga’s fair value also took into account the total equity value of RM5.6 billion for its subsidiaries Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd and its 70%-owned Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).

Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Bhd (KPSB) shares also rose. KPSB gained 16 sen or 9.47% to RM1.85 with 9.64 million shares transacted. The counter reached a high of RM1.86 today.

KPSB owns 100% of Konsortium Abass Sdn Bhd and 30% of Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash).

Recently, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the latest offer of RM9.65 billion for the proposed acquisition of water assets will be the final offer made by the state government.

The companies involved are Syabas, Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd, Konsortium Abass and Splash.

Investors could also be looking at KPSB's dividend. The stock will be traded ex-dividend tomorrow for its final dividend of 2% less income tax of 25%. – theedgemalaysia.com
