KUALA LUMPUR: Tiong Nam Logistics Holdings Bhd's earnings jumped 278% to RM16.77mil in the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2013 from RM4.43mil a year ago, boosted by recognition of profit for its property development projects.

It reported on Monday the better performance was also supported by higher rates charged for transportation charged, warehouse rental rate and fair value gain on quoted share investments.

Its revenue rose 89.8% to RM151.86mil from RM80.01mil due recognition of revenue from property development of RM58.9mil compared to no revenue from this segment. Earnings per share were 3.99 sen compared with 1.05 sen.

In the nine-month period ended Dec 31, 2013, its earnings increased by 367% to RM43.87mil from RM11.53mil. Its revenue rose at a smaller pace of 72% to RM409.41mil from RM237.96mil.

On the outlook, Tiong Nam said the logistics and warehousing services segment was expected to remain challenging due to the competitive operating environment as well as increase in operating costs.

"The group will continue to focus on providing value-added total logistics solutions. The property development segment is expected to continue contributing positively to the group in financial year 2014," it said.

Tiong Nam's borrowings totaled RM405.77mil as at end-2013 of which long-term borrowings were RM280.93mil.
