profit guarantee of RM10mil per annum


PETALING JAYA: Salcon Bhd is acquiring 51% equity in glove manufacturing company JR Engineering and Medical Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd for RM28.56mil.

The proposed acquisition comes with a profit guarantee of RM10mil per annum for the financial years 2021,2022 and 2023, ending Dec 31.

Salcon executive director Datuk Eddy Leong said the proposed acquisition is in line with Salcon’s strategy of growth and diversification.Listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia, Salcon’s core business is in water and wastewater engineering.

“We are confident the resulting significant synergies, economies of scale and enlarged market presence will strengthen the group’s growth profile and bring greater long-term value to our stakeholders.

“Although there are other manufacturers ramping up production capacity and new entrants venturing into this sector, we believe a structural change in usage of gloves will ensure there will be continued and strong demand in the market in the near to mid term, ” he said in a statement.

JR is operating beyond its capacity, with an annual production of 336 million gloves from four single former production lines in their factory located in Zurah Industrial, Rasa, Hulu Selangor.

To cater to the spike in demand in specific export markets, Salcon is targeting to increase and ramp up production capacity by an additional 12 lines, to a total of 16 production lines within a year.

The estimated capital expenditure for the expansion is RM150mil, which will be funded via internally generated funds and bank borrowings.

Once completed, the expansion will bring the total production capacity to three billion gloves per annum.

“Upon completion of the transaction, Salcon will have immediate access to a trained labor force, existing customers and an immediate source of revenue – cutting down lengthy product approval and registration processes, ” added Leong.

JR has already in place the necessary approvals, such as Food and Drug Administration certification and the CE Marking Certification that will enable the group to export to the United States, Europe and other countries.

Environmental biologists at the University of Stirling have warned that the potential spread of COVID-19 via sewage "must not be neglected" in the battle to protect human health.

The response to the global pandemic has focused upon preventing person-to-person transmission, however, experts now believe the virus could also be spread in wastewater.

Earlier this week, it emerged that analysis of sewage in the UK could provide important data on the spread of COVID-19. However, Professor Richard Quilliam's new paper -- published May 6 -- now warns that the sewerage system itself could pose a transmission risk.

Writing in the journal Environment International, Professor Quilliam and colleagues from Stirling's Faculty of Natural Sciences are calling for "an investment of resources" to investigate their concerns.

Professor Quilliam -- who is currently leading a £1.85 million study into the transport of bacteria and viruses in marine environments -- said: "We know that COVID-19 is spread through droplets from coughs and sneezes, or via objects or materials that carry infection. However, it has recently been confirmed that the virus can also be found in human faeces -- up to 33 days after the patient has tested negative for the respiratory symptoms of COVID-19.

"It is not yet known whether the virus can be transmitted via the faecal-oral route, however, we know that viral shedding from the digestive system can last longer than shedding from the respiratory tract. Therefore, this could be an important -- but as yet unquantified -- pathway for increased exposure."

Since MY is a damn hot country- hard to accept that virus spread thru airborne at open space area. Thus, the other possiblity is food and water contamination with the virus which then infect the digestion system. Unfortunately, health ministry rule out this possiblity. Habit using unhygiene bare hand to eat. thus, proper treatment by Indahwater before releasing the human waste to river for our drinking is paramount somehow incur leakage sometimes

Prospects
The Group’s financial performance has improved significantly in the second quarter of 2021,
contributed mainly by the Group’s Construction division and Healthcare Division via JR Engineering
and Medical Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd. (JR).
In the short to medium term, the Group’s newly formed Healthcare Division is expected to remain
resilient. Whilst the average selling price (ASP) of gloves is expected to ease further on the back of
vaccination programmes globally to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the surge in cases involving the Delta variant is expected to help cushion the demand drop of gloves. Over the longer term, demand outlook is expected to normalise, albeit at a higher level.
As for the Group’s Construction Division, whilst there were some delays due to the recent movement control orders, all projects across the Group are currently on-going and in progress with SOPs in place to ensure the health and safety of our employees.
Moving forward, with the country’s economy opening up gradually, the Group remains reasonably
optimistic on its operational and financial performance in the coming quarters.
