General Election (GE) and KLCI Performance

Based on the past eight election results, the market tends to perform better, on average, post general elections.

The exception was in 2008 when the market fell post GE, due partly to the global financial crisis and in 2004 when the market succumbed to profit taking following its strong performance pre-GE.
