Every two minutes, a woman dies of cervical cancer. In light of this alarming statistic, we welcome the news that cervical cancer can be eliminated within 40 years through the combined efforts of a HPV vaccination programme and a population screening programme. With Australia projected to be the first country to achieve this, Assoc Prof Marion Saville, cytopathologist and executive director of VCS, a government-funded Health Promotion Charity in Victoria, Australia, shares the lessons we can learn from them. Meanwhile, Prof Dr Woo Yin Ling, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist, Universiti Malaya, looks at what Malaysia has achieved in HPV vaccination and how we can catch up.
