The collaboration between YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, RTM and Media Prima Group's unit Primeworks Studio will create good synergy, especially in providing content using the 4G mobile Internet architecture.

In stating this, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd's executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said the company would host RTM and the Media Prima Group's channels and capitalise their existing quality local content via its hybrid television, which is likely to be in the market in November next year.

He said the hybrid television would be powered via its 4G mobile Internet architecture, which would further gain boost with the launch of the company's Yes 4G Mobile Internet with Voice this Friday.

Going forward, another area of collaboration we are discussing is to look into undertaking possible joint biddings, locally and internationally to bring even more relevant content to all Malaysians, he told reporters after signing memorandums of undertaking with RTM and Primeworks Studio here today.

Signing on behalf of RTM was its director-general Datuk Ibrahim Yahaya while Media Prima was represented by group managing director Datuk Amrin Awaluddin.

The agreements also included the possibility of the partners jointly creating new productions for local and regional broadcast, said Yeoh.

We are working side by side to provide quality content and make it relevant to all Malaysians to adopt broadband at a faster rate. This is what a true nation-building exercise is all about, he said.

It was reported recently that the hybrid television service will cost about RM1 billion to RM2 billion to roll out.

Beside RTM and channels under Media Prima, Yeoh said the company would also consider content from independent producers or providers in order to provide more options to consumers.

He said the next-generation TV service would enable content providers to deliver new and innovative services and serve as the foundation of an advanced two-sided business models, with a next-generation TV network serving as a distribution platform for content as well as new application services. -- Bernama
