KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): Australian-based supermarket chain Coles Supermarkets has entered the Malaysian market through its partnership with Jaya Grocer. Coles Supermarkets will offer 200 products on the shelves of Jaya Grocer from Thursday (July 6) onwards.

During an unveiling ceremony of the partnership on Thursday at The Starling mall in Petaling Jaya, Jaya Grocer’s deputy chief executive officer Daniel Teng said the partnership was carried out in conjunction with Jaya Grocer’s Australia Fair. The fair is supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and will run until July 9 at 43 Jaya Grocer outlets nationwide.

In addition to the fair, Coles’ partnership with Jaya Grocer will also be long term, about five to 10 years from now, according to Coles general manager of exports and fresh commercial Will Mulholland.

Mulholland added, “Coles has been exporting high-quality Australian food for over 20 years to more than 30 countries. Our mission is to inspire customers and deliver brands and products that we are proud of, and which our customers recommend above all others.

“We are delighted to launch a range of Coles products for sale at Jaya Grocer in Malaysia to showcase the amazing quality, support Australian producers and continue to drive growth in our own brand business globally.”

Coles, which offers over 1,000 products in its home country, plans to bring in more of its products to Jaya Grocer in the future.

Representing Jaya Grocer, Teng said, “We are happy to have a great selection of quality Australian products made available to our customers in addition to our already wide range of offerings. This is made possible by the exclusive collaboration with Coles. This partnership is a strategic decision from Jaya Grocer's end to serve the large Australian expat community.”

With this latest partnership, Jaya Grocer has now expanded its Australian product offerings to over 1,000 products from Australian-based brands, available at all 43 stores and for GrabMart delivery nationwide.
