KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) recorded revenue of RM2.82 billion in 2023, an increase of 15.1% from the RM2.45 billion recorded in the previous year.

Acting chief executive officer of Air Selangor Abas Abdullah said the increase was due to Air Selangor's various operational revenues. He added that Air Selangor will continue to invest in the management of water supply in the long term for its 9.3 million users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya where appropriate and holistic tariff adjustments can ensure continuous improvement in service quality.

"Air Selangor recorded capital expenditure (capex) of RM0.56 billion in 2023, compared with RM2.68 billion in 2022, of which the majority was spent on the Stage 1 Desalinated Water Supply Scheme project in 2022 (RM1.97 billion).

"After adjusting for 2023, there is an increase of 18.8% in capex compared with RM467.99 million in 2022 (excluding Rasau)," he said at a press conference in conjunction with the publication of Air Selangor's 2023 Sustainability Report on Thursday.

Abas said until the end of last year, Air Selangor had issued six sustainability sukuk, amounting to RM3.13 billion since the first issuance on Oct 29, 2021.

He said proceeds from the sustainability sukuk were used to implement projects related to water supply, sustainable water management and renewable energy initiatives. "This includes the development of new water treatment facilities, maintenance of existing facilities, pipe replacement programmes and the Renewable Energy for Water project," he added.

The 2023 Sustainability Report outlines Air Selangor's initiatives and achievements for last year and its commitment to strengthening water security through sustainability practices and operational efficiency.
