Asian stock markets finished mixed on Friday as investors awaited for US non-farm payroll data release. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) advanced 3.13pts or 0.19% to end the day at 1,617.86. Week-on-week, the index rallied 21.18pts or 1.33%. All sectors ended positive for the day with the largest gains coming from healthcare (+2.93%), property (+1.48%) and construction (+1.31%). Trading volume increased to 5.73bn (up from 5.35bn on Thursday) but trading value dropped to RM4.05bn (down from RM4.50bn previously). Market breadth stayed positive as 818 gainers outperformed 395 decliners.

The benchmark gapped up and formed another white candle last Friday, however, the shooting star candle leaves the current swing higher much less to be desired. The index still needs to overcome and close above 1,622 to confirm the swing up to retest of the 52-week high at 1,632. Until then, the index may continue to chop sideways as the immediate resistance at 1,620-1,625 is a tough nut to crack. The following resistance band is at 1,642-1,646. On the downside, we expect the KLCI to be supported by the 20-day EMA and the 1,590-1,600 level. Our portfolio stays in risk-on mode this week.
