Over the past day, the highest-trending question asked in the United States regarding coronavirus news on Google Search was "How many people have lost their jobs due to coronavirus?"

The following are the highest-trending queries asked in Google Search about Covid-19 over the last 24 hours in the United States.

How many people have lost their jobs due to coronavirus?

The New York Times recently reported that, over the past two months, over 36 million people in the United States have lost their jobs.

Is there a cure for the coronavirus?

A vaccine for Covid-19 is currently in the works; when exactly it will be ready for public deployment, however, is yet to be determined. On the bright side, drug maker Moderna announced on May 18 that early tests for their in-development coronavirus vaccine look promising.

The company's Chief Medical Officer Tal Zaks, MD, PhD stated that "These interim Phase 1 data, while early, demonstrate that vaccination with mRNA-1273 elicits an immune response of the magnitude caused by natural infection starting with a dose as low as 25 µg. When combined with the success in preventing viral replication in the lungs of a pre-clinical challenge model at a dose that elicited similar levels of neutralizing antibodies, these data substantiate our belief that mRNA-1273 has the potential to prevent Covid-19 disease and advance our ability to select a dose for pivotal trials."

What caused the coronavirus?

Covid-19 is an illness caused by a coronavirus which, according to the CDC,"are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals." Even so, the WHO states that the origin is still unknown though it "most probably has its ecological reservoir in bats." The theory accepted by the organisation is that the virus was transmitted from a wild animal to one that humans are more likely to be in direct contact with - "this could be a domestic animal, a wild animal, or a domesticated wild animal and, as of yet, has not been identified."

Is there going to be a second stimulus?

CNN recently reported that "House Democrats want to send Americans a second round of stimulus checks worth up to US$6,000 per family as part of the US$3tril coronavirus relief package" they introduced on May 19. In addition to adults receiving up to US$1,200 per person, they could also get an additional US$1,200 per dependent for up to three dependents. The proposal isn't expected to be voted on by the Senate until June.

What is the coronavirus?

The World Health Organization states that Covid-19 is "an infectious disease" which induces "mild to moderate respiratory illness." The virus that causes the disease is called SARS-CoV-2, or severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.
