This week, Business Insider reported that sellers on Amazon's Marketplace received a letter from the company stating that their names and address will soon be publicly displayed on the website. Such a change is being done to deter counterfeit sellers and to, "ensure there is a consistent baseline of seller information to help customers make informed shopping decisions".

This change will go into effect on Sept 1, making it essentially impossible for anyone to remain an anonymous seller.

According to Business Insider, this move comes as a response to a report published in January by the Department of Homeland Security stating that "Illicit goods trafficked to American consumers by e-commerce platforms and online third-party marketplaces threaten public health and safety, as well as national security" and that "This illicit trade must be stopped in its tracks."

Just last month, Amazon announced the creation of a Counterfeit Crimes Unit - with a team made up of former federal prosecutors, experienced investigators and data analysts - which will be dedicated to combating counterfeiters on the platform.

Shoppers will soon be able to see this new information on Amazon's Marketplace on the first of September making it easier to see who and where exactly their goods are coming from.
